I feel like the server is to old to support life anymore. It's just like an old wheezing geezer on a ventilator getting pumped full of air every so often.

There's no incentive to group. The people who aren't already 60+ with 60+ toons are all retired, playing r99 or AFK in the tunnel.

And there's just no challenge, excitement or sense of adventure. It's just a long boring grind with the occasional gnome running right through the middle of your camp to get to iceclad.

As such, I thought this thread was gonna be a legitimate complaint about the low level mobs not being tuned to the correct difficulty.

Server seems the same as usual, at least to me. P99 has traditionally been more solo-centric then the equivalent era of historic EQ was. That probably reflects the times; the online gaming player base isn't the same now as it was fifteen years ago. As for challenge...it's the same game as always. Lots of players here were little kids when EQ was new and kids tend to be bad at everything, so it seemed hard to them. Those same kids are adults now and see the game's not remotely as tough as they thought.

Sometimes it's hard on here to find groups, and even when a player tries to build them oftentimes the other folks he asks would rather solo. That's nothing new and represents a major reason why folks who're leveling are often encouraged to join one of the various leveling guilds.

Challenge is a personal thing. Any retard can solo to 60 on a necro by fear kiting light blues. Equally, anyone can try to hold the SolB royals with a group of L35. The problem is that at the highest levels of the game, variance means you have to zerg.

They should take the mage treatment a step further here.

All classes get 25% exp soloing no matter what, 50% exp in a duo, normal exp in a trio and with 4, then 25% bonus with 5 and 50% with 6.

My Unrest group tonight consisted of myself (nonfungi but twinked bard) 2 casters in rags, a cleric in bronze......and a best in slot fungitwink druid AND shammy.

This has been my average experience on blue the past month.

Last week when I tried playing Red99 there were 13 people in Mistmoore. Eleven of those 13 players were best in slot fungitwink soloers. And one of them was a BIS fungitwink delevel PKer, wielding a Claw of Lightning and several 100 hp 15 sv all NToV loots.

Good troll but if you're serious this thread blows my mind. Every day of the week there is some combination of untwinked, poorly twinked and amazingly twinked players sitting around in full groups taking up every camp in mistmoore. Still lots of newbs in crushbone and teens in oasis. The lack of boxing makes self power leveling not a thing. Even the uber twink has to interact socially to get his PL. Soloing on a warrior without a regen item is definitely slower than grouping 20+...You're definitely spending at least 20k if you want to somewhat efficiently solo a warrior to 35...If there is some secret to soloing a warrior to 50 untwinked here please PM me.

Also 95% of high end raid mobs are contested at all hours of the day within moments of spawning. Even mid end raid content gets hit quickly. The Hate / Fear revamp along with some of the velious quests provide the lowest tier raid guilds with contested targets to have fun snagging and bitch about not getting...

My fondest memories were of stuff likerunning from FP, to like EK to grab a gnoll reaver group because everything else was full, and having a bronze weapon and raw-hide and feeling like I accomplished something major when I got two whole levels in a few hrs without dying so far from a good bind point.

I'd love to play a server like this, but I suspect it would have to be a server timelocked to eternally being with no expansions. In some regards Kunark itemisation killed the heart of Everquest.

Yeah, either that or make it so every expansion has a required level for equip of 30 or 40+ etc. So people still use old word items and zones. But that's massively non-classic.
