Owns the shit out of the titanium client 1000% it takes some getting useto but it's elegant, and truly what EQ was meant to be. No numbers by default everywhere. Clean controls. No UI bloat, no extra bloat from options like ALTQ quest windows. And it stops at a DECENT place where the game was still EQ.
I will risk a ban by posting the above here. And by suggesting. P99 itself consider porting it's database to the mac client server and rerolling itself properly as MAC99. Or something like that.

Isn't that what the Tak Project or whatever other spinoff servers have been doing? P2002?

They go to PoP eventually. And dont' have some of the classic tweaks (hide, etc) that 99 does. It would be interesting to have 99 migrated. I do like where P2002 is going and am willing to box another toon on Tak just to check it out. But I was just mulling over the issues with the titanium client while I as playing and it's very sad that both of those other communities are smaller then red. Only 30+ actual players on each box (3boxing permitted).
I think a 99 style box in classic with the Mac client would do well if it was properly promoted. Or if people could migrate chars there from a /movlog but then it would have to open in velious. I think a new box would be good for this community too. and not just a fluffy discord box. but a real new box.

also both servers permit boxing and i know 2002 has fast exp which... meh takes the accomplishment and permanence out of that 1-60 grind that keeps a server stable in the long long run

Yeah I will always keep/play a toon here because that really makes a difference, that and a large diverse community.

In many ways we should be thankful that other servers haven't got a "no boxing" rule, I know I'd have been tempted to check out others, maybe play both etc if there was somewhere else with a similar thing to P99 going on.

Is there a server not full of insanes? I just think b99 has a higher proporion of not completely fucking batshit crazy to just simply normal nerdy crazy than most servers.
Explain what you mean about insanes on the AK servers?

TAKProject is a mixed bag as well. It has Secrets, which is good. But it also has Speedz, who, to give one quick example, threatened to ban people for AFK levelling swimming skill.

Oh well in response to swish, and the other people mad about box'ers is you don't have to be antisocial, I have talked to at least 10 different people on the box so far.
Just because your'e not grouping or sharing pixels doesn't mean you cant have a friendly chat.

I can't remember if it was Tak Project or P2002 but there was an almost RNF conversation going on in one of those threads here - certainly makes you treasure these forums.

I guess I could bother reading other threads/forums on the internet.
Oh well at least I posted a hillary 2016 joke in Takps RnF :P
(ooh but I rly would vote for hillary if she was on the docket, unless of course some other liberal was)

i really don't think it's fair for us to be calling any other group of eqemu fanatics "crazy." We have plenty of our own crazies, probably way more.
As far as the client goes, it definitely feels more classic. If you can get past no mouse scroll, you'll be okay. It's got a three box limit, but in my brief time on p02, I've already encountered many people, including a leveling guild. Someone also gave me a real nice starter set.
If you want to get wrapped up in the drama, sure, go for it, but if you just play and mind your business, p02 seems pretty fun. Plus it goes all the way to glorious PoP, which is where I personally played EQ the most and have my fondest memories.
Tldr personal peference

They hated me on their forums, the gif thread wasn't well received. I think they need to lighten up.

There are some angry posts on the takp forums, and some mad sounding players, p2002 seems a lot more chill.

Chill? Their dev team berged out over pixels and made their own server with the code TAK puts out, giving nothing back in return. And then they gloat about it.

Yeah, I wasn't around for that drama. I like secrets, and haynar, but no nothing of the other box. And I'm sure there's a good reason for someone to go through all the effort of rolling out a new box. Unless they just want to troll. But it seems so far that p2002 does care about the pixels, not the power.

Actually their dev team is working closely together with cavedude, and has contributed plenty back to the project. You once again prove how little you know about a server you don't actually play on (surprise?)

hMmm i'm torn between which server to try though :P I guess if they really are playing nice over at p2002 I could stay there for awhile. Got a level 9 cleric up and running. I don' t feel like boxing much, and I don't feel like doing much other than play a cleric so IDK.
What swish says though, the servers feel lonely quick if your not reaching out to someone.

I'm biased but I'd say check out TAKP considering that's where a majority of development takes place. I've been enjoying playing there. I solo a lot so maybe I am biased but it's nice to be able to play a solo class like Beastlord and occasionally group.
I'm sure P2002 has some great folks on it too, but to be honest I don't like the "competitive" mentality they construct there - both in server administration and raid structure. Not my cup of tea, but great that it exists for those that like it. I'm sure I could do the same thing I do on TAKP instead on P2002 considering that it's identical in some ways to TAKP but has different players.

Also, side note, Haynar is working on Trilogy client support. I would love to see Nilbog run a Trilogy server on that client as a true museum. Would be pretty rad.

You think all that plat goes to a good cause? It funds organized crime. Remember that next time you could be late for a raid.

So where do I sign up for my dial-a-port welfare pixel package?
Thanks for posting Secrets! I'll definately try out TAKP. I loaded 3 clients last night just testing things and they worked pretty swell :) Maybe I'll box a solo toon there and keep playing here and on 2002 occasionally. I'm not heavily invested in any server right now.
Just looking to get back into the grind occasionally.

What're the main differences between TAKP and p2002? You mention competition, but there only appears to be one raiding guild on p2002. Is TAKP more active?

TAKP is more active in terms of client count yes. I was moreso referring the the mentality behind the server. P99 and P2002 share similar philosophies in raiding policy, whereas TAKP prefers rotations.
They are both equally good servers however have some core differences. TAKP has the core EQMac folk playing on it (Destiny, The Horde, Vintage), where P2002 is composed of mostly P99 players that have moved over.
I'm curious to see what the Trilogy server will bring to the table, but we'll see on that it's a few months out at least.

also play on TAK instead of p2002, the latter would be better off with their server on the titanium client instead of pirating TAK's good deeds. not classic

Is it because the client p99 uses is a lot more recent then the one p2002 and tak use?
yes. titanium is uh 10 expansions? Mac client(TAK and p2002) are planes of power(5 expansions) and a large amount of sorcery by Secrets and the others.

i can confirm that p2002 does NOT have fast xp. it actually seems slower than p99
