It is with much honor that I announce Black Cat Day, and I hope Catfacts from red is on hand to add to these sad but true statements.

- Fact: Black cats are less likely to be adopted at shelters. #BlackCatDay

- Fact: Fear of black cats most likely stems from folklore held over from the middle ages, when black cats were thought to be witches' familiars.

- Fact: In Japan, black cats are considered symbols of good luck, especially for single women. Owning a black cat is thought to attract potential suitors.

- Fact: Black cats can be boys or girls, but more are male than female.

- Fact: In Scotland, a strange black cat arriving at your home means you may win the jackpot! A stray black cat arriving on your doorstep signals prosperity.

I don't have a picture of her to hand but I grew up with 2 black cats at different times, Whiskey who was this long haired fluffy thing - she liked chasing traffic a bit too much though and we lost her to a car tyre :(

Then Penny, who had a bad start in life... the previous owners used to shut her in drawers and shouldnt have had animals. She chilled out as she got older but she hated her tail being touched, and didn't want to be picked up for long.

Miss them both, cats are great. If there's room in your home for a cat, I'd recommend one <3

We had a black cat named Licorice. One time he ate an entire mouse head to tail in only a few chomps. Swallowed the whole thing at once it seemed. That was frightening but cool.

Another time our orange was being too curious about Licorice's hindparts. This was a bad idea for the orange cat, as she got a faceful of cat pee for it. That was funny AND cool.

Black cats are badass.

We had a black cat (wife cat). She named him Jr. Mint. He was the blackest of cats. His whiskers and EVERYTHING was black.

He was the most lovable cat. Our family will miss him forever.

He has BRIGHT green eyes. Love your black cat. They will bring you luck.

Had a 3 legged black cat. She was totally fail as a cat but she was awesome as a cuddle buddy. I miss her a lot. Wife misses her too. Cats face was so black you couldn't even take a decent pic, it absorbed all the light.

A tiny, mewling black kitten charged at us from a field across the street while my friend was getting breathalized. Took it home. She's pretty but the dumbest cat I've ever owned.
