I have always wondered just how much this server has made over the years in donations.....
do you guys frequently donate?
I'm posting this in RnF just as a precaution because I know how people can get fired up quickly and would rather not have it moved here anyways lol.

I know this is RnF, but I highly doubt staff is going to share their books. I believe that would provide one thing, scrutiny.
Who the hell wants that?

I was just curious. I know that just scrolling around some of the posts lately i see one thing VERY commonly, and that is guides or GM's coming in and saying "IT'S FREE, WE DON"T WORK FOR YOU"
I get that, and essentially this is a free server. I just wanted to see just how much in donations was being made and VS the ammount needed to run the server.
Again, just curious.

If the server was lucrative then Rogean wouldn't need to keep an actual job and could employ his server staff so they too wouldn't have to work a real job.

I don't know that this server is supposed to replace an actual job lol. I was just wondering what kind of $$ it brought in. I know some of the Ultima Online servers were bringing in thousands a month in donations.

Any donations here probably aren't much at all. You'd get more money streaming P99 as a job than actually running a server of it.
Plus the donations they do get are put back to the server hosting costs.

I may have appeared to come off the wrong way there. I was just making statements. No harm meant. I understand you are curious. Cheers mate.

Going back and thinking about it those UO servers that were making the big bucks were also selling things such as mounts and things for in game use. I bet that is were alot of the money came from.

What does it cost to run one of those things? I bet it's not cheap.

Google what a T3 cost per month for a business or whatever else they have out now. Maybe P99 is getting more than just a T3... I am not sure

This wasn't thru an outsourced website. There was a vendor near the bank in Britain that you bought the mount with in game currency you paid for thru the emulators website.

Well, if they don't pay taxes and say 10% of the server pop donates $10 dollars a month on top of unemployment, section 8 housing and food stamps they could easily clear 60k a year.
Better than flipping burgers.
I can't find any public tax records in association with P99, so I can only assume that they report the income generated from the server.

The server doesn't make any profit and actually loses money every year from what I have been told by people who have been around a long time.
With that said, there are a lot of ways to not earn a profit - $10,000 business trips to cancun, $700 diners, $1,000 for a hammer, $25 for a screw, that type of thing.
Honestly I bet they make nothing from the server unless Rogean = Platlord and he is making that $150 CoF money

I bet they don't......but I bet it's terribly tempting. Having a community that has been loyal for years that would pay good money just for items or information lol.
I give them kudos if they are staying honest.
Honesty in modern america nerd herds... LOL

The biggest server cost is hosting this website. When Swish posts 3,000 times a day, mailer@eqemulator.net and Amazon SES have to go into overdrive.

A periodic topic on the forums, OP. Estimates range from 50k-90k per year, after expenses and overhead. Starting 16 year old elf sim emulators is very lucrative and basically turnkey. There was a feature on it in The Robb Report a few years ago. Apparently the community is quite small, and most of the serious operators (including the people who run p99) run multiple game emulators and pull in a tidy 6 figure income.
