Since I know most of my entourage and haters only come here for R&F, scoot on over to the thread nilbog was kind enough to sticky for me in off-topic.

TLDR - I invent shit. One of of the things I made is about to be center stage of the ACS conference this summer. Part of it is a social media competition. Thanks.

i'm not a scientist so I would like to ask you - is it common for serious scientific research projects to rely on social media polls for funding?

No, but this isn't scientific research. This is entrepreneurship.

I did the initial feasibility analysis and testing that made this possible out of my own pocket, lived off of savings for a year, and then built a prototype with my own money.

The ACS is the authoritative body over pretty much anything to do with chemistry, and at this conference they will have a lot of people who have done research, and have paid hundreds or thousands of dollars to present or speak.

There were three people chosen from around the world who were actually INVITED to present and speak, because something they created was that fucking awesome. I was one of them.

Who wants to pay money to clean the planet?

oh i misunderstood. you aren't trying to win a research grant, you're directly asking the internet to fund your business costs.

BTW I was trolling this thread instead of the other one because RnF is for trolling and I think your planet cleaning machine is kinda cool.

I'm not asking for it, the ACS is. But, you're more likely to change it that way than by being a forum warrior on sim-elf.

It is all bullshit regardless.

Like ants trying to save the ant hill it is all a waste of time. Even in our glorification of personal achievements as a species we are just not that relevant to the history (or the existence) of Earth.

If you really want to do something for the planet stop breathing.

Good luck, dude. It's a noble cause and I admire your effort.

Kinda sad, though, that the zombie book I wrote and pimped on kickstarter made more money in a week than the gofundme for this competition has earned in a month and a half. Folks juts don't give a fuck about the future, I guess.

Anyone else find it ironic that a sociopath is working on green technology?

Much of climate change is unavoidable and natural cycles, I'd agree. But this is cool because it's not just a better alternative for the environment, it's actually profitable where current disposal methods are an expense.

This has only been running for a week, they set up the page about a month before the rules went live. Fortunately, the competition is also judged on the viability of the business plan that I submitted and the presentation that I'll make next week in DC.

But this dude's family has thrown in the majority of what's up there, which sucks, because it's a tough advantage to overcome.

Because wasting time and money on a perpetual motion machine or the philosopher's stone isn't just a giant waste of resources. You're a tool.

LOL way to reference two concepts that are literally hundreds of years old. Thank you for reminding us that sub-human simpletons will always chime in with their wikipedia knowledge.

And why are you comparing efficiently recycling chemical waste to perpetual motion?
