I made this post in another thread, but thought it could be interesting to discuss here.

Here is a comparison of all the defensive skill caps at level 60. Please note that Defense is not avoidance-related, it only affects your character's AC.

Warrior:
Dodge: 175
Parry: 230
Block: 0
Riposte: 225
Defense: 252

Paladin/Shadow Knight:
Dodge: 155
Parry: 205
Block: 0
Riposte: 200
Defense: 252

Ranger:
Dodge: 170
Parry: 220
Block: 0
Riposte: 150
Defense: 200

Monk:
Dodge: 230
Parry: 0
Block: 225
Riposte: 225
Defense: 252

I really have no idea what the developers were thinking in regards to monk vs warrior endgame. "Lets make monks like warriors, except better".

Pretty much, yes. And not to mention this parse (http://i.imgur.com/uFAob.png) that was posted showing how much better the Monk skill, Block, is at avoidance compared to Parry.

It only gets more imbalanced in Velious, when apparently they decided that Monk itemization gets a massive AC boost with things like 60 AC leggings equal to or better than what actual tank classes get..

AoW loot isn't really considered in balance discussions.

The skill caps you posted are from Velious 2001.02.21 patch. I cannot log in right now to confirm, but pal/sk def caps should be in the 225 range iirc. Classically, we actually get a nice bump in effectiveness in Velious ^^ though it is still not enough ^^

Some relevant info on how AC/mitigation are calculated and what it means for us:

Block should be 2x the fire rate of Parry. If it's 3x, it's not classic.

Edit - Assuming same skill levels that is.

My reaction too, but i'm glad they're op and that there's a lot of them because it means i'm almost never pulling :D

I heard monks were broken after the skipping stone got nerfed.

If we're very very lucky 100's of shitty monks will believe this and quit or reroll. Too many terrible FotM monks that couldn't pull a raging pitbull out of a wet paper bag and lack even the cabbage-level IQ minimum required to wait for an assist call.

I always knew monks were dodgey.
