I thought I might roll a red character but I'm curious how bards fit into PvP.

Colgate is right. There was one teamed with a monk that attacked me outside Blackburrow, I barely made it to the guards. I had a little distance from them at first and then that bard started singing his speed song and I almost croaked.
I think they are effective killers at lvl 52 range. Especially with chants not resisting.
I can't speak for beyond that level.

Probably the ballerest all around PVP group ever assembled is 2 warriors 2 clerics a bard and a monk
So they are top 4.
Every best group ever will have a bard in it. The trouble is that to play a bard effectively you can't really relax at all. Colgate who is a pro describes them as game changing, and I would go even further to describe them as game breaking. Verant didn't intentionally design them to be able to clear entire zones for solo EXP, but they can.
They rule.

Lots of neat tricks and such to bards also. Makes them a phenomenal class if you are willing to learn

Also I think it is important to add that if you are asking this question, you may find the bard very hard to play at low levels. They die surprisingly easy, even at level 5, and at that level it is pretty hard to use their songs.
But they just get better and are the fastest class to level to max. There is a learning curve but it is worth it.

As someone who has a 45 bard my recommendation is don't swarm kite your way to 60. I did to 45 and have no idea how to play the class.

I did this on Sullon Zek a long time ago and I agree. All I knew how to do was swarm kite, it was awful.

I was attacked and killed by this same group! No spell money for me, but it was my first pvp engagement and a lot of fun. Maybe you were in our group last night when we got attacked?

If you've heard of a bard named Lidara(hopefully you've heard of her), that's me. I played through two progression servers on that name and on Druzzil under the name Teludarra.
However, I didn't get into bards until right before PoP was released and so much of my experience is related to that. I did play both progression servers up through PoP, but they almost all had access to equipment and songs that aren't available on P99. I've felt at times, like I needed to relearn the class on P99. Also, I've never played on a PVP server.
The reason I ask is because I'm not eager to repeat the raiding experiences I had the last time around. I still have a screenshot of three guilds, all camping Trak, with mostly SK's, and Trak dying in less time than it took for him to settle out of the air. If I remember the logs, he spawned and died in less than a second. I just don't have the patience for that any more and I'm considering a re-roll of my bard on P99 Red.

I have managed a few solo kills on my bard, but in most cases your better off grouping with at least 1 other for pvp. Swarm kiting while amazing is also highly annoying and really doesn't let you learn your class or build critical defensive skill points that you will get from being hit my npcs. If you like bards, I say go for it. Stick with a pal or group for pvp, if you want to try solo pvp it will be very hard. and don't swarm all the time, get a few lvls the conventional way between swarming.
