Though I hate bacon (and anything pig,) it's not going to shorten your life span unless you like it super crisp. Overcooked food like bacon is usually chalk full of advanced glycation end product (or AGEs for short) which up free radicals and cause accelerated aging. Inactivity is more likely to cause heart trauma than bacon. If anything the fat and protein from bacon is a good source of energy dietarily speaking.

I don't actually eat bacon. I've been following a variation of the CRON diet since some time in 2007, with a few bad months of deviation during difficult times. I eat a few ounces of meat some days and I don't eat as many nuts and seeds as the original CRON plan suggests and I am a complete disbeliever in supplements. My diet basically consists of mountains of fresh produce, a little bit of whole grains, a little bit of dairy and a few ounces of meat, fish or eggs every day. I try to incorporate more beans, seeds and nuts consciously, but I don't think I'll ever be vegetarian or vegan. I completely avoid things like high fructose corn syrup and monosodium glutamate.
Bacon sure is tasty, but so are a million other things that will send you to an early grave. The deep-fried bacon with mayonnaise to dip it in is pretty hilarious in a very sad way.

CRON diet is practical. Fasting every other day and eating like normal, accomplishes the same goal. Though Walford's work was groundbreaking, the evidence was mice. The therapeutic dosage of trans-resveratrol far exceeds the typical dosage that most of the Immortalist society purports. Same with the polyphenol counts in green tea, if you actually crunch the numbers you'll be in the ballpark of 100, to 115 8 oz cups a day to make a clinical difference.
But as quoted above, there's correlation that you're a nut job. High fructose corn syrup, is nothing more than sugar to your body. There is really no difference in how you process it. Monosodium glutamate, though there are cases where people have been shown to be sensitive to it, is not the toxin the Internet loons make it out to be. I could take a guess that you eat all organic food too? Miracle Grow, you can down by the handful with no affect on your ALT, ASP, AST, bilirubin, albumin, or total protein counts. It will give you some gnarly farts though. Try that with manure, composting, and other organic growing methods. Same goes for most pesticides used in mass agriculture, much safer than neem oil to your body chemistry. Round-Up you can drink three ounces, and be okay just wish your regular daily water allocation. Try that with neem! It's acutely toxic at larger volumes than an ounce. Life time dialysis be damned, we're going organic!

No, I don't eat all organic, but I avoid processed foods as much as possible. I'm not a fan of white flour, white rice or white sugar, for example. I'm not trying to make any kind of statement with my diet. I was very thin and got sick a lot when I was a kid and I had a very hard time sleeping and getting up in the morning. My diet has evolved over time based on what makes me feel good every day. I'm much more of a hedonist than an idealist.
Today, I am much stronger and look much more youthful than my peer group. I think that's in large part because of my diet and lifestyle.

Almost every single piece of nutrition/dietary advice is subjective and relative to the person it's being given to. Eating a high source of fat on a regular basis as was suggested originally, and not on occasion would lead you to believe that the diet in question is consuming absurd amounts of fat in their diet via bacon. Quick rundown on a myocardial infarction:
1. Typically caused by an embolism or thrombus, which is essentially the same thing, just a clot, whether it forms directly in your heart, or breaks off from somewhere else and lodges in your heart.
2. Heart tissue dies from oxygen not getting to the heart.
Diets high in fat produce atherosclerosis, a fatty build up in the arteries. I've known plenty of people in better shape than myself to die at relatively younger ages from heart attacks(28-40 region). Regardless of your work ethic, workout routine, body fat percentage, and weight, heart attack is a risk for anyone eating a diet high in fat, and unless you're killing the pig yourself, trust your food is full of shit you don't know about or want in it.
You can argue what you want about diets, I personally believe that outside of treating specific medical conditions dietary nutrition is bullshit, and because every person metabolizes what they eat differently, and almost every persons body works differently, usually useless knowledge.

Balance is the key to anything diet-wise. Of course absurd amounts of anything is going to be bad for you. Bacon however, isn't going to cause heart problems.
High fat diets have been correlated more to cancer and type 2 diabetes than heart failure. Limitation of the gene GnT-4a causes pancreatic cell failure which leads to type 2 diabetes (as stated, correlation != causation) Since most things are renally excreted, there is a hypothetical chance for liver damage with a high-fat diet which opens you up to all sorts of bad ends. We know so little about the actual liver though, it still confuses the best of internal medicine doctorates and specialists.
I agree with the notion that everyone metabolizes some substances differently, but for a healthy person, a protein is a protein, a sugar is a sugar. Barring allergy, digestion problem (or anything related -- like ulcerative colitis) there should be no difference in me eating four pieces of bacon, or (if you're healthy) you eating four pieces of bacon a day with the same net activity level (as in, maintaining ideal metabolism.)
Pulmonary fat embolism is usually caused by a clot (venous thromboembolism) as you stated in a large vein, such as the legs. Prolonged inactivity (usually caused from bed rest from a pre-existing ailment) is usually the case (causation.) I'm sure I don't need to explain to you that it's very little part embolization of AFA (air, fat or amniotic fluid.)
As far as the link to atherosclerosis, recent studies have began to discount cholesterol (HDL - high density lipoprotein specifically) in diet as a determining factor. Atheromatous plaque CAN be caused by high-fat, but it's not that cut and dry. LDL (low density lipoprotein) is what actually causes atherosclerosis due to one category of LDL (the type that's reactive to oxygen) and free radicals increasing oxidization. Your body reacts to the bad LDL with an immunitory response, creating macrophages and T-lymphocytes to absorb the oxidized cells, creating special cells called foam cells. When the white cells allocated is overruled by the LDL (which they will be, and unable to absorb it) they expand and rupture, causing more oxidized cholesterol on the arterial lining. Herpesviridae has been linked to giving just the proper environment in mammals to increasing the chances of this happening due to the immune response generating more C-reactive protein in your blood.
Anyway, back to the thread. There's no room for personal opinions in diet.

Pigs are nasty, mean animals. They will bite off your hand if you leave it in their face and they are hungry. Dunno why the 'whining' about using them as food.
On the other hand: Vegetables, Fish, Poultry - the MOST docile and non-aggressive life on the planet - for some reason people think it's less 'violent' to eat that all instead.
I mean - when you eat veggies - technically, you are still 'taking life', lol.

And, ironically, a large part of my choice to forego meat was out of a sense of empathy to connect myself spiritually (if you will, though I suspect you won't) with those facing daily hunger.
I chose to forego meat, and to try to practice fasting, in part out of recognition that I, living in Land of Plenty, where "going to the market" means walking through aisles and aisles of GetAnythingIDamnWellPlease (air-conditioned, no less), might have reason to recognize, daily, that there are many in the world a hell of a lot less fortunate. In other words: I chose to become a vegetarian as an act of personal sacrifice.
So, in many ways, I respect, and perhaps even share, the attitude you display above.
On the plus side, however, I've lost substantial weight, have greatly increased my physical well-being, and I shit like a dream :D The benefits to human plumbing of the veggie lifestyle alone make it worth the change!

I enjoy a huge variety of foods, including salad. My absolute favorite thing to eat is sushi and I'm a decent cook. I focus mainly in southeast asian dishes such as Indian; I'm a friend for curry. I also love Malaysian items, their combination of coconut and curry creates pretty much the most amazing flavors possible.

I can completely relate to this. I'm pretty sure my uncle is a vegetarian just to be a pain in the ass. I recently cooked for a friend of mine who is both vegetarian AND gluten free. That sucked. What I eventually came up with was onion soup and a roasted pear salad. It took me about three hours to find somewhere that sold a gluten free baguette.

I love tomatoes. I love the ones from my garden. But that many tomatoes will kill my stomach.

That's just one roma cut up. Half of the red is red bell pepper.

Alawen, if you put like Ham or something on your salad, I'd eat it. that shit looks good. Need some green peppers and onions too = P
And whoever said the bacon bikini was wack.... It actually looks incredible is a disgusting kind of way.

I know that this is sorta off topic since this is something I purchased, but didn't make... but I just stopped by a new Italian deli outside my college. Easily the best sandwich I've ever eaten. The picture doesn't do it justice but it's Salami, cappicola, prosciutto, provolone, roasted red peppers, purple onions, layered in a ciabatta roll topped with olive tapenade and balsamic vinaigrette.

$7.99 so well spent.

Ironically, all these amazing places wouldn't be popping up here all the time if it wasn't for the army base here.
Rants & Flames full circle.

That's a good-looking sandwich, but I don't consider sandwiches a very good food source. Way more carbs and fat than I eat in a typical meal and more calories overall. The chips are a straight up train wreck.

That's some mighty impressive deli work you've got going on there, Reiker - mighty impressive.
And you're right about coming full circle - but, much of any Rants & Flames forum is cyclical, after all ;)

Yeah, I'm more concerned about taste than how healthy something is. I usually avoid fast food and soda and stuff like that, but when a sandwich tastes this good I don't really care about how many carbs/fat/calories it is. I'm not really a chip person so I wasn't very offended, at least they're ruffled.
