I got off work today, excited after 7 days of working to enjoy my tuesday off. I realize, after sitting down at my computer, that there is no game that gives me an incentive to play. I looked at my desktop https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx980NhzT_6DM1R4a0x1SkF6aVU/edit?usp=sharing
and realized I had zero desire to devote time to any of these games. Does anyone know this feel? I have other things I like to do with leisure time, but gaming has always been one that sustained me, kept me up long hours into the night, I now feel very vanilla that I have no urge to play anything.

textbook depression. you'll probably kill yourself.
Have that feeling often. Can't tell if its
a. games are terrible nowadays
b. getting older
I hope its a. but I am unsure

Uninstall league of legends first and you'll feel much better. Then play PS2 or something.

Games are bad, they've been bad for over a decade.
Play Brutal DOOM.

Aside from maybe four of them, I'd say your problem is a lack of decent games.
That or depression as someone eloquently pointed out.

I will stare at my computer screen for about an hour trying to decide what I want to play now-a-days. Mass Effect is about the only set of games that has been doing it for me lately, and even then it's hard to boot it up. I even spent $150 to get into the Archeage Alpha and as much as I fucking love that game, I just can't seem to convince my self I should play it.
I think I need to start playing Magic the Gathering again.

I did that for a couple of years. Ended up coming back to gaming. It mainly had to do with having a gf, and things to do outside of gaming.
As for DoTA 2 ehhh I wouldn't say the learning curve is very high at all. To master it or become really good at it? Yes.
I am level 8 on there, and I'd say about 1/4 of my games I have ridiculous scores like 20+/10 and under.
If you are good at timing and A + Left Click you will do well in the CS department. As far as "out trading/being more skilled than an opponent"; you don't have to worry about that unless you play support or an underfarmed AGI carry champ. Most Heroes Full to 0 in a matter of seconds (or at least the ones I play)

I've been going through the same thing for a while. I try to download new games to see if something will excite me enough to keep playing. I bought the new xbox and a couple games a few weeks ago and I find myself just sitting playing for maybe an hour every couple days.

A few months? I just got a retro-bit and completed both of those, Zelda LTTP, and Sonic 3/knuckles within a week.

Not to mention that his vacation will be over by the time he actually gets one. retro due type thing or emu is the way to go. Could already have beat like 10 snes games if he was a thinker.

Buy yourself a nice hotas setup, some rudder pedals, and get a copy of il2 1946 with the sas mod.
That's gaming right there.

I still like games, but I find my self playing less and less as the industry goes to shit. I was super excited about Sim City until I saw that you were forced to be online to play a single player game, and the extreme limitations that were put on the player. Game was almost guaranteed to get my money, but I didn't buy it. I was also super excited for Rome 2 Total War, until I discovered that the game would be shipped with DLC even though it was practically in a beta state. Another game that was about 99% guaranteed to get my money, but I didn't buy that bullshit either.

There's nothing original left to play, that's the problem.
How about a minecraft adventure horror clone with zombies and customizable stuff from the cash shop? Apparently that's what people want.

Been on a dungeon crawler kick lately but everything I find is some stupid Diablo clone. Legend of Grimlock looks good though, I'll probably pick that one up soon.
