View Full Version : What is the rule of thumb for petitioning bards on zone monopolizing
wimlin

Title says it all. Seriously at what point can I petition it and have a GM make them stop taking every mob in the zone for a 30 min AE kite. It says it in the rules, but I want to know when its ok to petition it. Is it a certain number of mobs.. do I need to time how long every spawn is gone for? The rules seem to say you can't monopolize a zone, but what is the definition of it?
It pretty much means that if the bard is literally taking everything and you can't even pull mobs because of it, GMs would do something about it. But they won't do a thing unless it's really being totally cleared. Your best bet is to find a spot that you can claim, mobs that doesn't roam, are within your range of sight then the bard couldn't pull those.

Ask the bard to not pull mobs from the area you are exping, or ask the bard to leave some mobs up where you are. If the bard doesn't compromise with you, just petition. GMs are pretty good about stopping bards from doing this.
I suggest sending the bard a tell rather than making comments in OOC. It's pretty easy to figure out who is pulling the mobs.

You would think so, but the number of hate tells I get every EVERY time I sit in OT or FV for more than 15 minutes is terrifying. And people are so fucking sure it's me. I tell them I'm not pulling shit, I'm just sitting at SF talking to people and they're like, bullshit, I saw you. A couple weeks ago I was in Seb for like 3 hours and I got a tell from Overthere.
I think I got one in FV yesterday that was actually meant for you, by the WAY

Bards are the worst. A bunch of bratty, Justin Bieber wannabes if you ask me.
The class should be banned from the server IMO.

In all seriousness though, before you petition:
1. Send a tell letting us know where you're camped/which mobs you're after. Most of us are cool and more than happy to accommodate.
2. Realize that, if we're mid-kite when you send us the tell, we probably aren't able to respond. Strafe-running, mouse-steering, and quadruple twisting doesn't leave a lot of spare fingers for typing.
3. Go ahead and peel some mobs off our kite. I've heard a rule quoted that any more than four mobs in a kite is fair game, so go for it.

This is his 3rd or 4th post in RnF about the same thing. He's been given all the best advice in every other thread, he obviously doesn't care to actually apply it in game. In two months I'm sure he'll post the same exact thing.

Getting along with bards is really rather simple. Here are a few rules of thumb
When entering a zone immediately do /who bard. If there are more than two bards send them a tell asking if you are allowed to exp there. Bards typically will take a while to reply to your tell. This is normal and purposely done to let you know how unimportant you are to bards.
If a bard pulls something from your camp or area, immediately petition asking the GMS to forgive you for stealing a mob from a zone the bard was camping. Send a tell to the bard apologizing as well. Note that bards are a privileged class and the server automatically tracks anyone who steals any mob from them. Failure to petition yourself will likely result in a ban.
When asking a bard to share his mobs with you, please be courteous. It is generally customary to offer between 20 to 50pp per mob, but more pp obviously won't hurt.
Make sure you set up your camp far away and out of view of a bard's kiting spot. Bards don't want to see the common masses exping excruciatingly slowly, it makes them sad to be confronted with such realities.
Finally, upon both entering and leaving a zone make sure you offer the resident kiting bards a small gift as a sign of your reverence toward them. Don't fret if you're poor, even some cheap armor piece you are currently using or a few pp will do. The bard will probably just destroy it anyway.
With these simple guidelines, you too can get along with bards without degrading their play experience with your unwanted presence in their zones.

2) Pull mobs off the Bard
3) Why the hell do people level in Overthere?
Other zones are quite full on this server this year. Also, quad kiting or playing any caster class unable to get a group easily like a wizard. Firionia was greening out pretty rough to my wizard last week at 42 so I decided to do some overthere it was great until the bards took all the blues, and yes I did pull mobs off the bard but doing that only works if you're ready to pull when their train comes by, otherwise they're halfway across the zone.

Zone I'm having an issue with is Burning Wood. Bards name is Whaziko and hes been pulling the entire zone starting around 9 PST both nights and has basically made me have to stop xping. There are very few places to quad at this level now that raptors are completely ruined so basically once he rolls in I'm done for the night unless I want to petition. You can literally run through Burning Wood the past couple nights and see almost no mobs in the zone.

Bards in BW don't pull sarnaks or giants. And no bard is perfect at clearing. There will always be a few hornets/skellies/apes left untouched. Finally, the mobs there die at very different rates (some have 3x the hp of others). By the time he's finishing his pull off, half the zone will be repopped and you'll have your choice of mobs to gather for a quad.
In summary, quit whining and being bad at EQ.

Oasis, spectres are camped constantly
feerrott specs, ineffecient and asshole to quad specs when they're more designed for classes such as a single target class, I.E. necro
misty thicket, don't want to ruin my faction and most guards are green
freeport, why the hell do i want to ruin my faction
rathe mountains, hill giants are shit because of their HP
south karana is green.
butcherblock, dwarves are camped and mostly too spread out
emerald jungle, mobs are too close together with very little in terms of ideal quadding spots with no pathers, also many resists on snares which increases running around and kiting back into a solid range for AOE and increasing chances of running into an additional mob.
burning woods, at 42, you must be fucking stupid
dreadlands, yeti area/snow area, there is a bug where if you run 2 feet up a cliff, you get an error message of "mob is too far away" even though it's easily within melee hitting distance of you, by karnors, too many resists as all mobs are even/yellow
FM, too much caster aggro, giants are mostly camped with levels/hp varying highly.
CoM, Com is camped, and not an ideal quadding location, you would never be able to hold onto a camp as a wizard quadding due to there being too many mobs, this suggestion has convinced me that you're retarded.
Firionia vie greens out 95% of the mobs at 42, there's 3 snarlers and 1 growler that con dark blue until 44. It becomes quite a boring grind especially when lately there's been normally 3 quad kiters and 1 group there.

It seems like no bard on this server ever bothers to check if anyone is xping an area before they decided to pull every single mob and kite them for 20 minutes while there are 0 repops. Once again had a problem tonight in BW this time with Recka decided to pull most of the zone. I've seen dozen of bards come in and pull this crap, never seen anyone be considerate and check to see where people are xping and bother to leave some mobs up for them. Also I don't have the time to group a lot and I have to afk considerably for family things. I played a wiz for that exact reason.. Large amounts of downtime after being able to solo. I still can't understand why I have never seen this behavior of bards on lives servers, but its so pronounced here. Something has to be different. F BARDS!
