It's free, and they require it.

It's for high density graphic development.

We have operational warranty inside the IT department

If it fails to function properly we send it back, they fix it and or send us parts; which is different than the 24/7 warranty which covers shit like DVD burner not working.

I looked it up, it covers shit like factory defects and recalls, not actual wear and tear/power surges. Effectively it's useless IMO.

Sound doesn't matter bro, just think of how quick I can zone into City of Mist with 256 gigs of RAM

We repair wear and tear in shop, why would we send it back and wait 2-weeks when we can do it in our IT lab in 15 seconds?

Think dawg.

Kind of? I dunno, I'm just saying that $60 could make your whole world sound nicer.

Think dawg.

Think about the 2/3 parts of the box that can't be 'repaired'. Burnt out power supplies, fried mobo, gfx, SSD, etc. Parts replacement is where it's at bro. Just sayin'.

Sound cards are overrated. Some on board chips are just as good or better.

37k tho, pretty steep. I am guessing they are charging about 10k in labor just putting it together.

Someone with 4gigs of 1333mhz ram and an ssd will zone just as fast but hey, what do i know... i spent $600 on my entire setup and have a faster computer on every game. Though im sure image processing programs uses more cores.

Think about the logistics... for 37k you can buy like 30 top end overpriced pre built computers.

I equate this to hood rats bragging about their new rims.

Not my money, not my problem.

I am lulzing at the amount of $$$ they spent for high-powered graphics design.

I think our entire imaging station is like $7k and that runs 50 CPU's at once.

Ambrotos

Well pricing everything out so far, it is bringing me around 27k.

The biggest hitters are the video cards, cpu, monitors, and ram. Unless the website is showing the wrong parts for the SSds, they are only 180 since they are hybrid.

The main thing I question is the ram. Everything I am reading for that work system mb shows a max 64 gigs. I could be reading wrong, and a good chance, but I don't see anything saying otherwise.

Hey if it's for work and doing cool shit, have at it. Pretty good write off for business expense.

It's a dodeca-core;

Max memory size: 768GB, Memory types: DDR3-800/1066/1333/1600/1866, No of memory channels: 4
Max memory bandwidth: 59.7 Gbps, Physical address extensions: 46-bit

Ya I never really worked with ws/servers. So I knew I was wrong, but just couldn't pin point why. I can see 3d usages taking up a ton of ram to process tho.

From what I understand this box is going to be rendering high-intensity graphics, so it needs intensive hardware to run the programs.

We have around 2,000 something HP machines, desktops, laptops, rackmounts that do 90% of the work; we have Origin PC's for the graphics department.

Yes and no. As far as I've experienced, every on board sound card has a limit, even on expensive mobos. There might be an exception with the super high end, I don't know.

Anyways, any shmuck can afford an Asus Xonar DG ($20-$30). The quality improvement over on board sound should be noticeable to just about anyone, and there's really no point in spending more unless you use your PC to record.

Spending money on some nice headphones is a much higher priority though, so if you're just using skull candies or whatever the whole thing is a moot point and you're fine with on board sound.

I doubt anyone is using a store-bought version of the EQ client here on p99.
