Why is it even a question?
"The trial that changed America"? Yes, live proof that the court system was a joke. It still is twenty years later.

Law should be about the search for the truth and carrying out justice not searching for profit and finding ways to 'win'.

People get away with committing crimes every day in this country.
Ever heard of a guy named Donte Stallworth? NFL player who was driving drunk one night, ran a red light, and killed someone in an intersection. Pretty sure he served less than a month in jail, paid a $5 million dollar settlement to the family of the victim and the judge shut the book on the case.

do you have a better method for finding the truth and achieving justice than the adversarial system and jury trials? would be happy to hear it.
as it stands, the "court system" is founded on every person's right to defend themselves against criminal charges in a jury trial, and to seek out legal representation if they so choose. oj was charged with a crime. he hired a great defense team. that defense team convinced a theoretically impartial jury that there was reasonable doubt as to oj's guilt.
unless you want to abridge a person's right to defend themselves against criminal charges, to seek out legal representation, or to be tried before a jury, i don't see how you get a different result, given the standard of evidence. what do you want his defense team to do? not defend him to the best of their ability?

My main issue with the law/justice system in the united states is the fact that police officers are not educated enough to do their job. So many arrests are made unlawfully and so many abuses are committed by police; some type of reform is definitely needed.
Maybe I'm just an idealist though.

It's not just the cops. More abuses happen in the court room.

I like how you sheeple worry about one black guy who murdered somebody when white collar corporate crimes (don't underestimate how malicious these are) are a much better analogue for how money affects our justice system.

The court system certainly has problems, but very few cures exist that aren't worse than the disease. What's the alternative to what we have now?

The problem with the trial by jury system is the jurors that are smart enough to make a sound decision are never part of a jury because they're smart enough to get out of jury duty ;-)
So the jury ends up full of idiots.
I've yet to sit on a jury myself...I mean seriously mandatory day off of work where you only get paid like $7.50 an hour? Fuck that, I was making more than that when I was a teenager :-/

The last time I was given a Jury Duty summons, I swung by the court house and filed a small claims case against McDonalds and chose an available date for the trial to coinside with my jury pick appearance date. Walked downstairs to the jury duty admin, showed proof of my being in a case on that date, got it canceled. Walked back upstairs to cancel my case against McDonalds, drove home. Cost me nothing.
The time before that I was in college so I printed out a sheet showing I had classes for the semester and claimed a hardship with the jury admin. There's retired people who enjoy jury duty. I'm happy to let them have it.

Last time I got called for Jury duty I made out pretty well. Was for a federal case, kidnapping, something about taking drugs across state lines, and murder. Was totally some cartel shit goin on. There were about 15 US marshalls in the court room for the 3 guys they had in there. and they all had translators as none of them spoke English.
Anyway, one of the guys escaped or something and they had to delay the trial, so I got to go in for 2 hours two days in a row, spent like $10 in gas and $10 on parking and ended up getting a check for like $150, I had a decent drive, but was driving a small car at the time that got good mileage. I think it was $40 a day, 10 to reimburse the parking, and the rest was for the distance I had to drive. Pretty shitty pay for a full day, but not bad for a couple hours lol.
