the exp bonus is the part I don't understand. On Sirken's stream a while back it was mentined that the exp Bonus Red used to have was removed primarily because abusive players who were banned could just roll a new account and get back to max level in about 3 weeks (assuming friends still in game helped).

Yet now the exp bonus is back, in the form of needing to be grouped. Which... a banned person would more than likely use with friends on the server willing to help them out.

I get that the grouping part is supposed to hinder the banned person from leveling up rapidly, like the old bonus granted. Yet the first level 60 Froglok Cleric on old retail was leveled up in less than a week *grouped*, using a chain of people rotating the account. Bard PL, Druid PL, or Mem Blur PL wasn't used for that experiment. It solely used grouping and ZEM underused zones like Kurns-Mistmoore-Sol A, etc.

So I'm failing to understand exactly what was fixed with the move that was made.

Contrary to what happens on these here forums, red can be pretty inviting. Met some cool levelling partners and some amazing groups formed.

I play neutral-good so don't attack unless attacked. And actually never avoided pvp, just avoid the stated zones with griefers a la mrbigs

People will kill you, but more often than not you'll find someone to group with instead and start making friends quickly. Then those friends can come help you next time you get attacked. There are so many helpful players on Red it's ridiculous. Of course there's a handful of bad apples, too, but we have these on both servers.

I have no idea why this explanation has become so popular and widespread. Banned players no longer being able to level up quickly was a side-effect, not the primary reason. You can find an exhaustive list/rant of why the XP bonus was removed here. (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139678) It really had nothing to do with banned players at all, it was about helping to foster a stronger community and reduce the high turnover rate. I think with all the changes that were made (level range reduced, SolB/Perma no level-limit removed, XP, OOC when it eventually starts working as intended) we've been able to accomplish that, along with a strong effort by the Red community to welcome new players and work to fight against the trolls.

on blue, the appeal is gaining levels and items, but the catch is most people dont achieve lv 60. if you do, great, whats next? if you dont, you can have a lot of fun continuing on your journey

if you do ever happen to hit 60, you may find yourself pretty bored. waitin for raid rotation here, some items gained there.. really great fun if you have a good community raid guild

but you can have that community on red. and consider off-raid times.. never being bored at 1-60, always someone to fight, always something to do. alliances are forged, destroyed, guilds rise and fall even without the presence of raid mobs

thats the appeal of red.. its a new dimension to everquest. its not simply about "ganking playesr omg griff u die".. its interesting to see how your grind-work stacks up against another man's. it just is

I prefer not to be brute forced out of a camp I called by one of the 100 unique users that have enough plat to twink
I logged in and played a wizard, a lot of people handed me 25pp. There was rarely anyone to group with, and those that I did with I was out levelled by thus was not able to group with "new friends"
All my "old friends" are still on blue
Winning a pvp battle has nothing to do with class knowledge, especiallly when its considered legit to peeveepee people currently currently preoccupied or pvp.

The chances of you getting brute forced out of a camp prior to level 56 now are pretty slim because of the new level range and the blue PnP applying to out of range situations. No need to over think it. GM's were mad that habitual recidivist repeat offenders were scoffing at the disciplinary actions by just releveling characters. In a weekend of shitting in tube socks they could be back 55+ with a VP key and acquiring phat pixels to use against their opponents. An ill conceived action was taken: nerf exp. The result was that the bottom half of the server dropped out and the shitsocking people already committed stuck around.

GM's rotated on their thumbs for 3.5 months and decided to implement the experience bonus required to attract people to play on Red where the toxic community makes the experience so horrendous that the carrot the draw them into the upper levels must be huge.

Don't feign ignorance, there is no riddle. GM's best was piss poor and a poor intervention. GM's not being retarded, only misguided, chose to rectify their mistake and try to resurrect the server. Mission accomplished, gains made, play if you want.

Stop using this one-off comment Sirken made on a stream as the sole justification for the XP nerf. It had nothing to do with banned players leveling quickly. We had always planned to put a new, different XP bonus in, but the implementation got delayed because a developer got busy with real life things, as we explained multiple times all over the red forums. That's fantastic. Fortunately, you don't have to listen - it's as easy as not clicking the thread. If it annoys you that much to see "Red thread" in server chat, you might need to take a step back from the keyboard. Or, as I suggested earlier, take it to RnF.

I'm not going to argue about this anymore - unless it gets out of hand (which it hasn't), the Red posts in "Blue" Server Chat are not going to go away. The posts complaining about them, however, will. A lot of time, effort, and work was put into the Red server lately by both the Development team and the CSR team, and we're thrilled that the red community (and a good number of people from the blue community as well!) want to share this experience with people from both servers.

Let's try to remember that we all love and play Everquest here, regardless of whether we enjoy PvP or not.

Ehhh, I say it's sound advice to avoid the zones known to be occupied by fungi twinks. Most people do and so you'll find pvp more in other areas (think sk, NK, oasis etc...).

Or you can put on your leather mask and level there like a good little boy. Your call really.

I'm not mad at all, more so amused that I make one post(was not a rant/flame, was pretty damn civil/truthful)and it gets trolled/moved by GM. However, there are 2-3 posts on blue forums a day about red that are defended by GM's or have people warned/suspended if they troll in them (unless they play on red/support red.)

that being said: the appeal is not the xp bonus

on blue, the appeal is gaining levels and items, but the catch is most people dont achieve lv 60. if you do, great, whats next? if you dont, you can have a lot of fun continuing on your journey

if you do ever happen to hit 60, you may find yourself pretty bored. waitin for raid rotation here, some items gained there.. really great fun if you have a good community raid guild

but you can have that community on red. and consider off-raid times.. never being bored at 1-60, always someone to fight, always something to do. alliances are forged, destroyed, guilds rise and fall even without the presence of raid mobs

thats the appeal of red.. its a new dimension to everquest. its not simply about "ganking playesr omg griff u die".. its interesting to see how your grind-work stacks up against another man's. it just is

No one is forcing you guys to click on these threads. People make it sound like we're requiring you to click an ad for red99 in order to play. When I see a thread I'm not interested in on the forums, I just don't click on it. If you're not interested in Red, and it's obviously a Red thread, don't click. I'm starting to think people only make these negative posts because they like having something to fight about. Have you considered trying Red to help work that out?

For a lot of other people, these red threads help them find the server, and they have a lot of fun there. Over the last couple years I've spoken with countless people who never would have tried the server if it wasn't for one of these threads, so I'm not going to take them away - particularly when they are clearly labeled and so easy to avoid. It's not like the title is "Trakanon ninja looted by scumbag" and then a Red promotion is found inside instead.



Have you tried within the last week or two? There has been ~200 people on every night this week and plenty of people to group with. The chances of you getting brute forced out of a camp prior to level 56 now are pretty slim because of the new level range and the blue PnP applying to out of range situations. That being said, for some people, Red just isn't for them. My hope is that everyone gives it a shot with these new changes being in regardless of how they have felt about the server in the past.

TL;DR: Try red, not because the red community wants you to, but because the devs and the CSR team that provide you with such a great Everquest experience want you to give it a shot!



I have to take issue with this post. All of the posts about red recruitment on blue forums amounts to little more than spam after the original promotional post regarding new changes to the server. Do I have to click on the thread? No, but I also don't open spam mail either. I still don't enjoy seeing it pop up every day. If you are concerned about new players being able to "find the server", keep it to the starter forum, and move it to its own section, off the blue forums.

I appreciate what you and a lot of the red community are trying to do, I think its awesome and I hope lasting positive change happens on red. I just think the constant reposts of the same idea is wearing thinner than asking what race is best for a newbie shaman.

I'm not going to argue about this anymore - unless it gets out of hand (which it hasn't), the Red posts in "Blue" Server Chat are not going to go away. The posts complaining about them, however, will. A lot of time, effort, and work was put into the Red server lately by both the Development team and the CSR team, and we're thrilled that the red community (and a good number of people from the blue community as well!) want to share this experience with people from both servers.

Let's try to remember that we all love and play Everquest here, regardless of whether we enjoy PvP or not.


Sorry for the double post, but I am replying to these as I read them. This statement coming from the staff is petulant. I am behind you on the efforts to improve red. It takes a lot of work to preserve the quality of the game and get a whole community behind you. Huge kudos to the effort and the results.

I am not attacking your efforts to make red a better place, I am attacking the incessant need to trumpet news we have all seen over and over again. It would not take much effort at all to move the starting forum to its own line and have it include material relative to both servers. Starting new on P99 on either sever is going to overlap heavily in material anyway. If you want to make sure new players get a chance to try their hands at pvp, that is a great place to put these recruitment threats without spamming blue server forums.

(And it is the "blue" server forums. It is labeled as such. Just move the starter forum to its own slot above both red and blue sections so it is the first link people see before scrolling down and keep the recruitment posts and other relevant starting questions/information there.)

Lots of new people trying it, I made up a ton of JC stuff for Bob, a couple of his pals and a bunch of others last night (at cost). I know a lot of people who start just don't have the cash to get some basic stat jewelry so its all about promotion and helping the new starters.

Honestly I'm all for less "advertising" for red (come on now, we are all aware of it's existence-- its not the abhorrent daily reminders that our bodies aren't ready that caused the surge, it's the xp bonus.) However as a fairly long time casual I can say that blue is about as toxic as it gets, and a large chunk of the population appears to be antisocial as well, very few people want to group. For two weeks ive been playing in FOB and 90% of the people I ask to group give the same lame excuse about being at work and not really paying 100% attention. it's actually kind of a weird trend.

This is something that's gotten worse on blue since I started playing. Before everyone was twinked to the teeth people would always welcome grouping (Together Everyone Achieves More etc) but definitely in the last year its got to the point where not only are people antisocial but if you walk into any camp you'll often get someone say "(ass/sup) is camped" in OOC. Like just say in a tell, what's the problem there? :p

I don't know whether its just rule lawyering getting worse and people covering themselves, twinking and that self-entitlement feeling, or both of those plus some other weird reasons.

Be nice on blue pals, we're less toxic per head.. on red.

Fortunately, you don't have to listen - it's as easy as not clicking the thread. If it annoys you that much to see "Red thread" in server chat, you might need to take a step back from the keyboard. Or, as I suggested earlier, take it to RnF.

Eh, Got a chanter to 54 on Red. Don't know if maybe i just chose the wrong starting class, but from 10-54 i was never able to land spells on even/yellow targets even when debuffed. Maybe these people were twinked? I've heard people say "Twinks ganking people doesn't happen all that often" but i seen first hand that's a load of shit as i did a good amount of pvp from 10-54, group and solo, and my spells landed maybe 30% of the time IF that.

This was before all the changes, mind you. I seem to recall resists being revamped, and the group exp was a great idea, but my time spent on Red ruined it for me to ever go back.

It's not pvp, it's engage someone and if you can't win you zone and plug to avoid YT. Seen it every single day i played my chanter. And god forbid you pvp against one of the many drama queens on Red and win. You'll be blasted in RnF for simply trying to pvp on a pvp server.

I encourage people to give it a shot if they are interested in just trying to ignore the bullshit and just pvp, but don't get drawn in thinking it's going to be this amazing community that only wants to have fun, because it really isn't.

Played Red this weekend. Massive PvP battles between Nilly and Azrael were awesome to watch. Group exp is great so people are foaming at mouth to make groups. Got twenty just messing around in Kurns and FoB. Red community eager to bolster population and are helping new players with plat for spells and some starter gear.

All in all, very positive experience. Reccomend Red99.
