Part of the game was dealing with douche bags and learning to ignore them or blacklist them. I dont ever remember GMs getting involved in any minor camp/harrasment/trade ripoff type of issues.
The only time I ever saw GMs getting involved was when guilds would fight over raid mobs and leapfrog each other but that mostly happened in Velious.
So why are there so many people qqing on the forums here. Just because you enjoyed your classic EQ one way doesnt mean everyone did. Some thick skin would go a long ways imo. Thats my rant for the day.

What you see a lot here are people who were nubs back in the day, wanting to live out their fantasy of what "could have been" if they were in the leet guilds.
Now you see those people getting butt-hurt over this stuff because they never dealt with it back in the day and dont understand that it has always, always been part of eq. Sometimes i think the gm's here suffer from that plight a bit as well because like you said...gms just didnt get involved like this at all.

Yea it does seem pretty carebear at times even for a PvE server.

P99 has a horrible community, you're just discovering it.

I don't think the community is horrible here......however you do have those that stand out and fuck things up for the rest of us.
And yes there are alot of titty whiners here, trying to suckle on anything they can latch on to.

P99's community isn't horrible. Its fuckhats, however, are the combined force of every server's most retarded mouth-breather.

P99's community is fine, IMO. Pretty similar to what EQ live was like.
I agree with the OP that GMs are far too involved on this server. For 99% of the issues that GMs currently intervene on, they should tell the petitioners to go have a Coke and a smile. GMs should only be intervening in the case of exploits or repeat, extensive harassment.
You've been camping this mob for 36 hours but Guild_B engaged first? Sucks to be you, work on mobilization. Your group-mate ninja looted the Thick Banded Belt and /q'd? Sucks to be you, don't ever group with him again. You asked your friend to transfer 40k for you and he disappeared? Sucks to be you, be careful who you trust. You got trained by Rinna 6 times in 20 minutes? Sh*t *****, stop whining and start moving. Basically, EverQuest was made out of a whole lot of "Sucks to be you" scenarios. You'll notice that this has a striking resemblance to real life. This is not a coincidence. What made the game great was that nobody held your hand and nobody wiped your tears.

I do suppose the baby wipes could get put away......but then 9/10's of the server would have chapped smelly ass.
This may be completely off base so correct me if I'm wrong.....but doesn't anyone else kinda feel like BECAUSE this game is so old, the people that are playing it now feel in some way they DESERVE to whine all the time and get their way because they put so much of their wasted lives in to the LIVE servers?
/petition Someone just stole the orc cent I was killing in CB. I demand you guys re-issue me the EXP I lost from this devastating KS and perma-ban the player that KS'd me.
I deserve this because I played live for 8 years and wasted 1000's of dollars on this game.
Anyone else agree? Or am I way off

lol how sad is that. Oh well I hope the Devs just get fed up with it soon and stop listening to the whining. Then we'd lose alot of the bitchy whiny players and have the ones that are enjoyable to play with here on the server.

You're not helping matters, over-opinionated Internet tough guy. Stop acting like an elitist brown nosing prick and do some of that server enjoying you keep talking about. What's with all of the bold? "u mad bro"? :D

This one is also quoted for truth. I wish things could really be like this, But exploits to get your mob, training, and fucking retarded shit would be so bad on this server (because 65% of everyone here is a artard, no offense) that zones like sol a and perma would be uninhabitable.
At the same time, i think the guilds would come to some sort of an agreement a month in or so, although we still couldn't agree on shit when the camping got bad, so idk. I have a feeling, Just from knowing this community, that having an open ended system with no gm intervention (at least for the raiding scene) would turn people away so fast it wouldnt even be funny.

I take it you're one of the whiney bitchers I made reference to. Good luck being annoying, and I hope you get your exp back from your afk death in LGuk or whatever it is you babies whine about.
2nd- In no way am I an internet tough guy.....I am not threatening anyone or saying my dad can beat up your dad. So nice quote....but poorly used.
3rd. I am over opinionated when the topic is something I feel strongly about.
4th. Brown nosing prick? hrmmm go fuck yourself?
Thanks and see you in-game!

I didn't use /petition in classic because in classic the GMs were rather brave. They weren't anon and if you just sent them a tell directly, they assisted within a few minutes.
Note that I am not insinuating anything about later GM's or P99 GM's. The GM:Whiney bitch ratio was just wasn't the same the first time around.

I think the forum community is a million times whinier and worse than the general population you come across while playing.

Tseng nails it on the head. I haven't had any issues with raids, players, anything like that. I come to the forums for good reads/trading, which seems to be what 95% of the community does as well.
I think the forum community is a million times whinier and worse than the general population you come across while playing.
I'd say in that same regard, a lot of people who post here are completely different in game. I can list a number of people who troll around on these forums, but when it comes to dealing with the in game they're professional and courteous.
Forums - and especially rants and flames - are around for people to complain on. Coming here and complaining about people bickering and arguing is like going to church and complaining about people praying and doing whatever else it is that people in churches do!
Let me rephrase that since I used complaining a bit too liberally there...
Basically bickering and complaining is what this forum is for, so that is obviously what happens here. It is dumb to come here and expect those things to not be going on - and even more ridiculous to judge the entire community because of what you read here.
It's like going to hospital and being surprised to find sick people, and then concluding that everyone in the world must be sick since all those people in the hospital were. It's just silly.

i think you're definitely onto something. people are way older now and trying to recreate some perfect utopia from their minds called everquest which never really existed in reality. the original servers were full of fucktards too that would ks you and laugh in your face.

my server was very chaotic in classic but like you said it worked itself out over a few months when certain guilds realized unless they cleared tov in a night, the aussies were waiting for vulak and vice versa. then everyone started playing nice and making deals.
