View Full Version : NTOV vs KD vs ST- Which was most difficult?
Im thinking NTOV was much more of a challenge with the exception of AOW in KD.
Killing the warders in ST never seemed like a real difficult task.

shut up
I dont think AOW was even killed before luclin was released.
I wonder which raids are going to be targeted first knowing all of this.
Flurry drakes in NTOV were more challenging than the bosses.

You know nothing Lron Snow.
Im probably the most knowledgeable player with the most raid success and experience on the forums so watch your tone.

Yup. Ventani is the only difficult warder, but he's not as difficult as Vyemm. AoW is the hardest encounter in Velious, but nothing else in Kael really compares. All of ToV is difficult in one way or another, and Vyemm is somewhat on par with AoW (but still not that close). Tunare would be up there too but mostly because of poor design. After PoG was "finished" (post-Velious) Tunare really wasn't that difficult, but clearing the plane was very time consuming.

AoW was killed twice mid-to-late Velious by the joint forces of Legacy of Steel and Shock of Swords on the Nameless. This was accomplished by charming "Frozen Moses" aka Fjokar Frozenshard.
It was later nerfed, but they killed AoW one more time 100% legitimately just before Luclin released.
I assume Klandicar and then Zlandicar will be the first "serious" raid mobs killed (even though they're kind of a cake walk, especially Klandicar). They are by far the easiest mobs that drop ST keys and keeping them down will be a priority. Zlandicar has some pretty nice loot for how easy he is. Most likely followed by Lendiniara and then NToV stuff, but it'll be interesting to see how far guilds can get without Velious gear. Honestly most guilds could probably do NToV right now, but I think Vyemm is going to be a challenge and won't die for at least some time. I'm also curious if Sontalak will go down early or if guilds will just coth past him at first, that fight can be tougher than a lot of stuff in NToV.
Getting the key from Skyshrine to CS is going to be hilarious at first though.

I hope the Frozen Moses shit is fixed before Velious is released, id hate to see the first AOW killed by charm tanking.
I looked up some screen shots and forgot how epic TOV, particularly NTOV was. Maybe the most epic of raiding zones ever created and Ring of Vulak was the most intimidating and immersive raid at the time.
I also hope plane of growth is different on P99 than it was as far as getting to tunare to give guilds more raid competition.
12 hours to clear a zone with no real viable loot till the last target, Tunare, was pretty fucking lame.

The only way to decide this is to merge all the zones and have a royal rumble. AoW is def a badass but I think he'd get zerg'd down pretty quick.

I am pretty sure Fires of Heaven, Legacy of Steel / SoS and Triton all killed AoW within 24hrs of each other and it was right before luclin launch

Vulak is a joke compared to a lot of Velious mobs. It's a congratulatory loot pinata for clearing ntov (aka beating Vyemm).

For truth. Beating Vulak is managing to stay awake for the 45 odd minutes it takes to beat passed his life taps & brain draining slow.
Flurry Drakes are evil.

As others have said, AoW gets my vote. Lots of guilds skipped AoW, geared up in Luclin, then went back to AoW for their first kill as a guild.

You're smokin, AoW was a mean mofo. Yeah it did take zerging, but it also took fast recovering of key classes to kill this mob. Def not a pushover at all.
Tov was tough, but I saw a certain guild on inny (pantheon) do some pretty spectacular kills with 18-20 peeps, of course they did have a gm as a guild leader. But that's besides the point. Tov just takes paying attention and following directions, just like 99% of velious did.

Does no one remember warrior rushing Aary with ToD's because he was a bitch?

Conext! It's raid mobs/zones versus eachother. AoW is mean, and he's KD's star player, but how many DRAGONS would it take to zerg him down? What would team KD really have left once AoW was knocked out of the game?

Whats the story behind Vulak I remember hearing as a young EQer that when he was first kill he had no loot table, but the first guild to kill him [FoH im going to assume??] got items named after the players that killed him.
If this is true Pro99 wiki shows 23 items if I counted right on his loot table. Im sure it took more then 23 items to kill him, so how did the 23 players get picked out of X amount of players it took to kill him?

Wont let me edit my above post. Im also curious aren't some of the NTOV dragons stationary? If so, does Vulak summoning those dragons make them un-stationary?

Dragons being rooted was implemented later. Vulak was a ring event by that time.
Rooted dragons allowed for easy debuffing before you ever got started with tanking it.

Keldor, Vindi, Tormax, Statue, and Idol. Not much to look at compared to NToV. I guess PoZs are mean lol...

Aary was a legit gatekeeper.
At least for part of my servers' history, whoever downed Aary had rights to NTOV for a few hours afterwards before it became FFA.

TOV was much much more difficult than KD by all means, and its not even close.
On the other hand, there wasn't a single mob in all Velious that would match AoW.
Many dragons were difficult in terms of pure strategy as they required perfect placement, perfect timing and discipline, but if you had them well figured out, they were kind of easy.
AoW on the other hand was super simple, there was no great strategy to it, but you just needed the best tanks in the world and a whole bunch of cleric along with a huge DPS, because he had so many hp, could not be slowed, and would hit so friggin hard + rampage.
