Noob Shaman Question

So my friend is starting up an Ogre Shaman and I want to help gear him out. I have roughly 12k in plat right now but could maybe get 20ish if I liquidated a few items.

I wanted to see what would be some "must have items" for him. I've been doing a little research and I think the PWC will be a must but after that I don't really know what to do.

Chances are he'll be soloing for a while and if not he'll be duoing/trioing with a necro/enchanter. If you could give any tips on some good items or stats I should focus on that would be great.

Oh yeah, ill probably get him the plat fire rings as well.

PWC and 5/55 rings are certainly the top choices in your price range. If he's soloing, melee would be a good option until level 30 or so when root-dotting becomes more efficient. To that end, an FBSS would be useful. You can always sell it when he outgrows it and get your plat back. For grouping and in general, look for HP and mana gear.

Awesome, glad to know im on the right track. Can't find anyone to sell me a PWC right now but I picked up an HBC for 3k and a reed belt. Sort of winging it for the most part, the wiki page for shaman shows a lot of wisdom gear but I'm learning more toward the HP=mana side of gearing.

imo get treeweave for the chest. Giving him an ikky bp from the off wont help him learn to play the class.....

for the first 25 lvls go AC over wis. hes not a clr or dru; wont be sittingon his arse 80% of the time., medding!

after 25 need to balance ac/wis/hps

make sure the bugga uses slow.....pull the mobs with slow then tank em/mixed with nukes......

If you can't find a PWC you can also get a jade mace which is another incredible Shaman melee item.

As said as well, 5/55 rings and other +hp items should take him far.

Works for me, the gloves were free so they were last to replace but ill keep an eye out!

Well I was gearing on the fly and the wreathe was a hand me down, I replaced the gloves with the Iksar gloves. The Tunic I didnt really know what to go for so I went for wis/sta, legs went just for the HP same with boots. I'd gladly take better suggestions, the wiki recommends some of those items so I assumed they were decent.

head- if you can afford it totemic, otherwise jbone. lumberjacks cap(cheap filler)

chest- treeweave or brigandine tunic

legs- totemic (do the quest)

hand- yeah iksar.

feet- totemic.

PWC, 2x 5/55 rings, and 6k pp of meh. If you can afford it, even if it requires selling off the rest of that stuff, I'd get FBSS and banded to go with the PWC and rings. 21% melee dps boost is huge.

I managed to get another 9k by selling a BoH and I've still got a few other items to sell. Is there a noticeable difference between FBSS and Sash of the Dragonborn when it comes to DPS?

You'll do 3% more DPS.

Those first levels basically to 24 can be pretty tough. Gotta hand it to the shamans who do it without a starting fund.

Got the FBSS and the Blight Hammer for post 30. Now he has to level fast enough so I can get my FBSS money back one day!
