The night of disappointment.
Lesser Faydark was an abomination of events. Plagued by Zone crashes, level 1s sneaking in, a pony, and Shadows of Luclin level health and AC on Gods.
The Plane of Fear was... the best thing they could think of (I am assuming) on such short notice, didnt help people rushed the gods at the very beginning or the zone crashing many many times..
And who knows what economic damage the "trick or treating" thing did afterwards, but that too was ruined by the level 60s and whatnot destroying Crushbone, Mistmoore and Kurns.
After 14 or so some odd years of playing MMOs, this was by far the most disappointing/depressing holiday event.

Being disappointed in something does not make one entitled. I was expecting people getting together, having a blast fighting custom mobs designed by the people who revived this game. But all we got was loading screens and You have been Disconnected screens.
I do realize however that the word "entitled" is this months buzzword.. but ya gatta give it a rest once in awhile, ya know?

I appreciate the greatness that this server has to offer on an hourly basis but this is absolutely correct. The event was tragic and wasted the time of everyone involved, including the GM's.
The stream made it even worse because you could see first hand the lack of effort being put into this, throwing random dragon AoE's at players that are chain disconnecting.

The night's events for me - sit in EC for way too long before anything happened, run around a bit, port to steamfont, zone into lfay, die, rez, crash, log in, crash, unable to log in, switch characters to make banded armor for a guildy and wait until the event ended. I'm appreciative of being able to play P99 but that doesn't mean we can't be honest about it when something goes poorly.
I spent time with family and took the kids trick-or-treating.

This was a Halloween event. There were Tricks and Treats. Most treats were given to the lower level players (as it is in the real world). ALL the tricks were given to the higher level players. The true treats were for the GM staff watching the continual wiping of players. And, on top of it, just when things got settled down in lfay and the gods were dropping, mayhem ensued for another round of wiping. All in all, sorry you did not get pixels and now you are mad (lol) but, chalk one up to the Staff. This event was a WIN for the mobs.

Here's my 2 cents, which isn't worth much but...
If you actually stayed till the end when we got to put the smack down on lvl 60 super CT then you'll
probably look back on last night when you wake up today as having been a ton of fun...If you left during
the zone crashes...you probably thought it was horrible.
I'll admit when fear started crashing at the north wall I was going to get my corpse then gtfo out of the
zone as soon as possible just because I didn't want to have a corpse in fear at the north wall with a
repopped fear the next day lol.
But after I got rezzed and the zone stabilized (it did go semi wonky one more time right before we killed CT)
from that point on it became a ton of fun again and the icing on the cake was seeing 100 people go flying
across the zone from CT gfluxing...looking back on it I really did have a ton of fun. :)
And for the people complaining about loot or x, y, and z...then of course you didn't have fun, if loot was your number
one concern / priority going into this then I guess you completely missed the point.

O how I miss the days of Uthgaard, where events were actually fun, exciting, and ORIGINAL! This is a game, so we are sorry that you are not having fun doing the job that you volunteered for. If your idea of fun is griefing the blue server to get your jollies off, go back to red.
The event last night to those who participated was a complete and utter waste of time for everyone involved. Stretching on into the 3-4am time slots on a weeknight, like most of the events that go on now, you got to see a normal CT and Inny in fear with 150+ people. Then by some gawd awful prank, of all guilds TMO is in charge of loot for some fkn reason. The guild who has the worst reputation for not playing nice or sharing is telling people to work together. This was by far the best joke of the evening. The close runner up was watching the live stream and laughing at how the event was a total cluster fuck on the staffs behalf. No one knew what they were doing.

I thought it was a "fair event" and it was something different. Only time I've ever had a chance to loot an AoN or Puppet Strings. At the end of the day though, events are not about loot, and I feel it was something different than vanilla play. If the lag out and zone crash problems didn't happen, I'm sure less people would be complaining. Those problems were out of GM control.
Not sure what people expect from a volunteer project.

Maybe I'm just a cranky person, but when you run an event that is less fun than no event at all, I think criticism is justified. I mean, the whole reason people get excited for events is because they're supposed to be a special encounter that people can go to and have an unique and fun experience. If the broadcast had been "Wait in EC for over an hour for nothing to happen, then all scramble across the world to sit in another zone for a couple hours getting killed and DC'd, and then go to fear and do the same thing", I highly doubt as many people would have showed up.
No on is saying they don't appreciate what the server staff does, but when you hold an event that appears to have zero planning or foresight and get hundreds of players involved under the impression it would actually be a classic-esque holiday event, I don't think people are out of line for being a bit miffed when it end up not being any fun. I'm sure the intention was for it to be fun, but that doesn't mean everyone who doesn't pretend it was is some entitled jerk.

CT and Inny are loose in the world outside of their realms. Not clever, nor original, done last year without the engage. Its not about the loot, its the event as a whole. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't zones like EC and WC made to handle a higher population compared to zones like Lfay. Keeping the event in EC like what was announced hours before the actual event took place, would have prevented things like this from happening.

.......A normal CT and Inny in fear?
'Cause inny and CT in fear are normally lvl 60, CT normally has lvl 60 golems, and they usually roll with 500k hp. Also, inny is usually in fear kickin it with cazic. Not to mention both those mobs had abilities set that they don't usually have.
You can talk all you want about 'the days of uuthgaard', but the fact is that there was no such thing as 300 people in fear killing gods when uuth was around. We simply did not expect that big of a turn out (lfay was impossible to manage, and THOSE god mobs broke right off the bat - were not using any abilities we had set them up with at all. Those things should have been melting face fast enough to keep lfay population down).
You had 4 staff members in skype trying to fix the encounters and keep things exciting, and when we realized shit wasn't working, we adapted quickly and set something up that was 10x more fun in fear. If you didn't like it, sorry. I know a lot of people did, and i know we had fun running it.
Was waiting for this QQ thread once lfay started desyncing. Thx for making my morning :)
To everyone who enjoyed/had fun, your welcome! Next time we'll set something up that compensates for the desyncing problem (IE, keeps under 200 people in the zone).
Oh, and lowbie event was hiding items on merbs throughout norrath. Congrats to anyone who found our treats!

I'd really like to hear how you would have handled loot better than TMO who let everyone present roll.
In regards to the event itself, I really think it could have gone better. The stuff seemed like it was hastily put together and took a very long time for rewards for just a slim few involved. However, it is very much appreciated that effort was put in to do an event at all.

Nothing but praise for the GMs, this is a volunteer project... they're already giving up their free time to put these events on for people, but we all know there's always some miserable person who didn't get a flaming sword or something and is bitter about it.
I wasn't at the event, but I will say its better that events are run... and while haters will hate, they probably preferred to be there than sitting in EC reading auction spam ;)
Perhaps if there's 2 events going on simultaneously with similar/same rewards there'll be less crashing (maybe make it a summon only thing to keep lag to a minimum)...its at the point where the server almost needs to draw people in 2 different directions for these :p

You know, back on the live servers, GM events were laggy, confusing, and generally best avoided if you weren't able to put up with this sort of thing. In other words, this sounds just like a classic EQ DM event.
In fact, I don't see how a GM event could be anything other than laggy and confusing. The sheer number of players involved pretty much guarantee it. It's great that the volunteer GM staff was willing to sink their time into running this event. Maybe there's a different way of running these events that can help reduce these issues. If that's the case, having a conversation about how to do it beats the hell out of complaining about something you weren't capable of enjoying for whatever reason.

Events should be handled by the event coordinators, not some loot hungry guild that the other 364 days out of the year cant go without training someone or intentional griefing. Who ever was handling the rolls (zeelot alt?) couldnt even keep shit straight, redoing rolls over a couple of times.
The reason this thread is in RnF now is because of Zade showing up all in arms about how it was all intentional greifing to the server because of the amount of petitions and battles over FTE.. Guess who is accountable for 60% or more of those petitions and making your day a nightmare...

You sure are mad about the volunteer staff putting in their personal time on a work night to do something for the 400 people who were participating. Maybe you should rethink your position on this server.
Don't like the event? Don't participate. You're confusing poor organization with a desyncing problem we had no way of anticipating (when was the last time 400 people showed up to an event on p99?). Once we realized the issue, we adjusted, and things ran much more smoothly. I'd love to see your 400 person event on p99. I'm sure you'd do much better.

Sorry, but you cant chalk this up to "lol we were just trolling" when you all legitimately tried and everything went to shit. Because if you all really were "rofl TROLLED" you would of stopped when the LFay part "worked as intended" and said nothing, let the GM silence fill the air as people slowly started to realize what happened.. and that.. that might of been funny enough to make another thread about. But no. You moved it to PoFear and that was another mistake, you moved this to rants and flames so you can lower the bar some more and/or allow you to be crude.
Yes this is a volunteer project, but that is no reason to be an asshole or to do a poor job of things (and be proud of it). And like most people, instead of taking criticism and learning from your mistakes, you get mad and lash back at people. I dont wanna dread every GM event that will come up, or have the mentality of some people and "Meh, last one sucked, might as well not go"

From what the GM said, high level rare items - Freeti boots, SMRs, ect from trash mobs in Crushbone, Kurns and Mistmoore. This part was actually pretty fun, a group on my alts level ranged filled fast and we sweeped the castle looking for booty! But.. we found nothing. And after the fact, after the GM said it was all over.. and also very confused that someone in the zone found an earring and nothing else I looked at my exp bar and gained well over half a level in a short amount of time and even tho I didnt get loot, I felt rewarded and was happy I attended this one.

I was busy handing out stale candy to the kiddies. Damn, wish I would have been at this event to see all the cry babies.
When you are logging into a free game, with an unpaid staff, you have no right to "expect" anything, imo.
If I don't like something in the game I do something else or log off. /camp actually works.
Thanks to the staff for their efforts, and honestly, nice of TMO to jump in and help out with loot.

Derubuael crying about people complaining about his event. Classic. So mad that half the server called you out for your shitty event. You know if you did a better job at your volunteer work you wouldnt have such a bad reputation. Say I'm crying some more thats so clever. Keep hiding behind the fact your staff led a shitty event and everyone is to much of a bitch to claim their fuck up.

The best events are the simple ones. Remember the Karanas being over run by spectres, werewolves, etc on live? That was the epitome of the perfect GM event. It was spread over 4 zones, so the population can't reach desyncing levels and force everyone to play loginquest. Loot wasnt too crazy, it was good enough to be an incentive. Leave it running for 12hrs, let people have their fun and at midnight, when halloween is over, the event is over.

It was a really bad event. 3+ hours of zones crashing and trains.
The end result was like 2 people out of 200 got loot they wanted from CT/Inny. Terrible drops and waste of time.

The reason they can't give out nice items when they do GM events if because little bitches end up petitioning and complaining that people are getting loot they cant. Just see the velious trivia event. Yeah the event in LFay was a big clusterfuck but did you really expect anything different?

Lesser Faydark was an abomination of events. Plagued by Zone crashes,
:(
stopped reading at zone crashes.
um.. neither zone ever crashed, or else CT would have poofed.. as hes not a regular visitor the local Lfay area, (and fear didnt crash or my special golems would have depopped). call your ISP and tell them you need a better connection for the 14 year old elf simulator you like to play for free.

it was moved out of Lfay because there were almost 400 people in Lfay and players were crashing. the zone did not crash or the mobs would have poofed. and yes we wanted to watch players die. the 5mil HP gods in Lfay were never intended to be killed and would have been #heal'd at 20%
sorry you didn't get any Ph4tl3wts brah, but at the end of the day we were able to bring 400 people together in one place, we were able to get a bunch of guilds to work together that normally would never work together, we the staff got the satisfaction of watching players die to merbs over and over and over again.
i'm sorry that peoples clients were crashing, it happened to staff as well. we were expecting around 150-180 people based on previous events, not anything near 400. also, i had class thursday night, which was why it was started a bit later than would have been ideal

if you were only there for pixels, then yes, i'm sure it was a pretty shitty time. Staff added nothing to the loots, whatever Inny and CT had when i popped them was what they dropped.
one thing that never changed; this event was not created to flood the server with extra pixels.

oh! and as far as the lowbie event, we went to lowbie dungeons and set them up then alerted the zones before a public broadcast because we were worried about the big level players ganking them. the zones were MM, Kurns, and Crushbone, and the items were SMR, Efreeti Boots, FBSS, +55hp Ring, and a Goblin Earring.
we had to boycott Unrest because there was a 50ish druid there.

As someone who started in the servers conception, I will always say I appreciate everything Nilbog and the staff do to keep this running.
However, this arguement of "We spend our free time to do this for you!" gets old. You, as a GM, know what you should be getting into at the time you volunteer. You know the amount of work that comes with it. You know the population expects a certain level of quality out of you. You should understand that anything you do (be it GMing, running events, posting on forums) should be done with a level of professionalism. The whole "I do this stuff in my free time just for you!" is a shitty arguement. If that's your stance, then you should re-think your ability as a GM and step down.
It's like going into a soup kitchen, serving a homeless guy raw turkey on Christmas because you didn't cook it properly, then when the homeless guy gets upset you get pissed off because "Hey, I'm spending my own time doing this for you!". If you can't handle the volunteer job and the level of quality that should come with it, then you don't do the volunteer job.
I won't say much about the event, wasn't there, but it sounds like it was handled poorly. Instead of this giant RnF circle jerk thread, a simple "Hey, things didn't go as we expected and we apologize for that. But we did our best and we hope some people had some fun" would of gone a lot further than the shit GMs and players have been shitting back and forth.

You're confusing doing CSR with running an event for 400 people on a work night for 4 hours in our spare time. They are two very different things.

I understand the entire "Volunteer" thing. Sirken puts a lot of time into this game and so do the other GM's. With that being said, I personally think its kinda lame to have an event on the NIGHT of Halloween.
If I remember correctly live had a few zones who were plagued by zombies and dropped decent lowbie stuff as well. I look forward to the new items and the exploration of these mobs dropping good "no drop" gear. I am not going to stay home on Halloween and give up a fun night of drinking and festivities and plus will definitely get laid.
But i'm sure you all had a good skin jerkin time.

All that needed to be said really. GMs using the (didn't see you using this, the other guy was) "be happy we do this on our own good will" is silly. It's always been one of my biggest peeves about this server.
The event didn't run smooth, you admit it, but still some had a good time. All that matters. The shit slinging is pointless.
