View Full Version : Rogue - Weapon Upgrade Advice Please?

I am looking to upgrade my weapons on a limited budget. That may not be possible at the point I'm at but I'm looking for general advice anyway.

I'm a 32 Rogue and I'm currently using these weapons:

Mainhand: Bone Razor (http://wiki.project1999.com/Bone_Razor)
Offhand: Iksar Berserker Club (http://wiki.project1999.com/Iksar_Berserker_Club)

(I also just finished my Burning Rapier (http://wiki.project1999.com/Burning_Rapier) quest, so I could use that for my offhand if I decided to sell my IBC for cash.)

I typically have around 1000p on me at any given moment, so I don't have the biggest wallet to work with and this character is my highest level, so farming a twink weapon or something is out of the question.

I'm thinking about purchasing a Crystalline Short Sword (http://wiki.project1999.com/Crystalline_Short_Sword) which is a little more realistic than getting a Serpent's Tooth (http://wiki.project1999.com/Serpent%27s_Tooth) for my main hand (although I can dream!)

My 1H Slashing skill also sucks, so the CSS would be a weird choice, but not the end of the world by any means.

I also plan on starting my Epic as soon as I possibly can (Level 46? or 50?), so maybe that should factor in my weapon buying ideas?

Any advice would be awesome! Thanks! :)

Character name in-game: Frighten

Honestly, you're good on main hand and just need a nice offhand. You've got the right one in mind too. Get a CSS, level and work on your epic when you're able to. CSS is cheap (relatively), unlike the Serpent's Tooth, and actually good post-epic, unlike the Serpent's Tooth. Plus the 27 delay on the tooth will make you wanna cry.

I know it is tempting to buy a CSS now, because that is seriously a very solid off-hand weapon that will last you a very long time.

However I think it is strange to have an offhand weapon that is worth twice as much as your primary weapon as a rogue your level. I don't know if you have done much parsing but your main-hand weapon is responsible for at least 75% of your dps at that level. It isn't even solely because of backstab damage (which is huge) but since your dual wield skill isn't maxed you aren't getting nearly as much mileage from your secondary. Even when it is maxed you still won't swing it as often as primary.

I would prioritize upgrading your primary before buying CSS to be honest.

Pretty sound advice from Trazik honestly. Cecily is right as well CSS is a great offhand weapon. It's what I use. Personally I would save up for a Rapier of Oriin. They are around 5k. That's manageable. Once you get the rapier your next step should be crystalline short sword.

It's a question of immediate gratification versus buying a long term upgrade. If you work hard on it, you'll be epiced by ~lv 46-47. I got mine at 47. I don't recommend the rapier. It's expensive and difficult to sell. CSS is cheaper and easier to get rid of. Things to think about.

Rapier would be huge DPS increase for a long time and can be offhanded when epic is obtained

Only time to intentionally buy offhand is if you're looking for a specific proc

Snare, slow, rune etc

I bought serpent's tooth for 5k and got a ton of use out of it. I then sold it in EC for 5.5k when I got close enough to afford my epic. It was pretty easy.

Thanks for the advice everyone. You all definitely make some great points.

I think I'll save up for the Rapier of Oriin (I'm halfway there, so it won't be too bad)

I'll off-hand my Bone Razor when I get it and then off-hand my rapier when I get my epic.

Sounds solid to me. Thanks guys!

And then sell the rapier, get the better ratio CSS for offhand, and make some plat back. Post epic weapon progression is all about higher ratio offhanders. CSS to Seb Dirk to EoN to TMO.

I've always felt like DPS diff on offhand was so minimal that you reserve offhand for cool procs

Seriously. I parsed my 25p wintry club for 100 fights in lower guk (47 rogue) and it did 4.1 dps (not even counting the terrible proc).

Then I put on my 2.5k CSS for 100 fights and it parsed at 5.5 dps.

For comparison my total DPS was 40.

Summary: Upgrading from wintry club to CSS increased my dps by a whopping 3.5%!

3.5% adds up over a long career!

Whats TMO short for?

dueling wield damage explodes post 55 because of double strike + higher duel wield skill! Not to be underestimated.

Problem with that is no versatility. Dumping a bunch of cash on primary only.. meh.
