I read an interview, anger can bring the worst out from any body. She mentioned that she said an N word when she got robbed by some "N*^*&" pointing a gun in her had, she was sharing an incident with her husband. If I was in the same position, I would probably say the same out of anger, is it wrong? Yes, but I understand.

I don't know her personally but I don't think she is racist.

I used to work with this big Audit Accounting firm in Houston, Texas. I am the only few asians who work there; 90% are whites. It was Monday and the same day as the Martin Luther King Holiday. Our client happened to be a bank industry, so it closed to do the holiday.

I jokingly asked my Sr. Manager, "Aren't we supposed to be off today? It's the Martin Luther King Holiday." He looked around, make sure no one around and told me softly, "Did you see any N^(^*& working around here?" See that is racist!

I no longer work there, and I am glad I left that place. You'd be surprise of what you hear when you sit in the room full of white people. Again, you can't judge them all because not all of them are like that, any race or color.

Based on her interview, I think it was right after the robbing incident. I gave her the benefit of a doubt that she is racist to the fact that I think it was driven by anger and adrenaline rush.

In other hands, if it was casual conversation, then yes. However, I guess we never know.

I was growing up in multi-cultural back ground, Asians, Whites, Latinos and Blacks. We threw the N word left and right when we were growing up, and I can honestly say that I am not racist. I'm older now and I no longer say or use that word to my child, spouse, friend or any context.

also true. along your posit though, i think that the social situation is more governing than the offense of the word. the want to fit in in the moment outweighs the offense taken because they want to be one of the boys. that doesn't counter your statement, but wasn't trying to because i agree with your overarching point on silence in that situation.

more broadly, ******, itself, has associations with one dominating another and the usage being a verbal/label reminder of that dominion. the one using it in the situation would likely agree with what it signifies and not take too kindly to being objected to by their using it from another. the power associations run deep, and i think that that's what people don't consider when using it freely. there's also a possible type of behavior of "i stole the bubblegum because i wasn't going to get caught" going on too.

Now if you say ****** to someone who is perhaps lower class, less educated, been in jail, and is generally a piece of trash, they will probably get very offended. But.....The black/spanish kids in my school seemed to be using the word in every sentence, but somehow racism in this country typically falls on white people, when yoi think of a racist you most likely envision a white guy.

Anyway, if a simple ignorant word is enough for someones career to be destroyed then I feel sorry for the people who are offended by this. You must be very insecure in your intelligence level to be so shocked or offended when a white person uses a derogatory word, as if they are the only ones to do so. I'm not defending the opinion or words used by this cat old carpetbagger but come on, being fired for exercising your right to freedom of speech is a crime against your civil liberties no matter how you look at it. Sure, hate speech isn't protected under the.constitution but since when is a word used by ever rap artist, and atleast in new york, a majority of black people, hate speech?
