This fellow archival, is standing and /shouting druid ports for donations at SF ramp in Overthere.

He had been doing this for at least 4 hours, but that is neither here nor there.

I see him /shouting his services, I say, need aport to west commons.

I tip him 9p.

His response: "eeew"

He complained. he said most people tip him 20p - 100p.

This is my only character. I have maybe 600p to my name. He is /shouting in a zone for ports for donations. I give him what, to me, is a fair tip.

If you're asking for "donations," that means that you will port for free, should a donation not be offered. To then turn up your nose at a donation, when that is what you asked for, is absurdly caddish. My name is Hasbinbad, and I support this RnF post.

Tough situation, because not many people will /shout or /ooc "Porting for plat, pay me and I'll take you where you need to go" Most people opt to go with the more polite "Porting for donations" and expect people to have the integrity to respect the fact that the porter is saving you probably atleast a half hour worth of your time (maybe more depending on the situation.)

I stopped accepting plat for ports once I hit lvl 60 because most times, people just don't respect the fact that you're taking time out of your play session to save them time in their's. When you don't expect anything in return to begin with, you'll be less disappointed in the end when you get jack shit from some little in-grate. I usually only charge TMO members for ports anyway (still rarely accept plat from anyone though) as kind of a running joke, hey gotta take some of that plat they get from all those dragon pixels they sell!

I don't like the word donations. I cringe everytime I see someone advertise with it when it's fairly obvious you are trying to provide a service to be paid. Why not be honest with customers and say flat out that you looking for cash. I play a Druid. I don't advertise ports, yet I will port anyone who asks if I'm not cureently engaged. I've temp-left groups to help people out. I don't expect any cash but I *never* hit the cancel button. People will pay for customer satisfaction without your untruthful advertisements.

This is a horrible idea. I don't want all the trolls' secondary, tertiary, etc. accounts shitting up the other forums because they need to get to 50 posts before they can return to RNF while their main account is banned. Think of it this way, Harrison goes through 1-2 accounts per month, would you want him to have to post 50-100 things per month before he could be contained within RNF again (outside of mods moving all his posts back to RNF manually)?

When I say donations I mean donations. If I don't get anything I'm cool with that. If people want to give me a tip because of the amount of time I'm saving them, then great. I've gotten donations of 30gp before and donations of 300pp before. I never know what I'm getting (or if I'm getting anything at all) until the trade window opens. So I feel pretty justified using the word "donations". Even if I'm excited if I get that big donation from someone with a lot of plat, I'm not disappointed if I don't get it.

You don't NEED a port. There are boats. If you'd like to save your time, you should tip appropriately. I feel absolutely no obligation to spend one second of my time to port you because YOU want to save YOUR time.

That being said, I am often generous with my time to port people in frustrating situations to encourage them to move past it and continue to enjoy the game. When I donate MY time, it's on MY conditions.

9p doesn't sound like much...its not. The problem op has is that the druid was shouting ports for Donation, there was no minimum 50p donation simply for donations. For a new character 9p can be a lot when your scrimping and saving for that one piece of gear you want.

If the druid didnt want to port for 9p he could've said so, instead of spitting in this guys face...
