Roleplay Guild Ideas, How to Make it Work?

We have thousands of veterans in this game. This is a roleplay MMO. It seems that at lower levels with my Iksar, I have no trouble what so ever getting someone to fall into a small amount of RP in our conversations, just to change things up. But as we level we get stuck in that, Where is my loot and when are we raiding mode. We can still do that, but why can't it be a bit more meaningful? Need that certain piece of armor from Hate? Why not just say, "Guild Trainer X has sent me to the realm of Hate in search of piece X."
Just looking for ideas to give a change of pace. How can it work? How can a RP guild make sense?
Should it be all Dark Race? All lights? If it is popular enough, would there be two guilds that could set up PvP events with one another?
Why is it we enjoy the simple aspects of the game at lower levels, then forget them as we grow?
Some of my best memories of EQ were funny banter and RPs in groups just to pass the grind time.
Maybe some with open minds here and come together and make this make sense?
What ideas would you use to make this work?

Love Rp and there are a lot of folks that rp quite regularly but usually only when they arent playing to seriously.

best part about being an ogre you can rp anytime and people usually like it =p

Yeah I'm one of those that's receptive to it when people put their RP hat on - engaged in some RP with my DE cleric before too

People purple line? "As a healer of Innoruuk it is my duty to bring people close to death" (OOC: fuck that was close)

"smybol plx"... "the Prince of Hate requires a small donation" (I'll only pull that one if a wizard or other 'not supposed to be taking damage' class asks for it)

All kinds of other stuff if you're creative - if you're rezzing someone ask them to state their respect for the Prince of Hate, or some such other deity related stuff :p

Obviously trolls and ogres can be tons of fun... my troll SK used to die pulling at the MM castle entrance sometime - cue a bunch of stupid jokes about (legit) getting stuck in the door, FD failing, tripping over your own feet rather than landing successfully...

Lizards, just add a couple of extra S's, act evil and menacing - state your superiority over other races for the reason you cant bank or trade anywhere easily.

All great fun, more people should roleplay and enjoy grouping with it...shit is classic ;)

Now you're talking my language! I haven't had the chance to rp with many people, but occasionally I like to encourage the broodlings with chants of "Glory to new Sebilis!" and buffs of spirit armor and dead mens floating. Also I've kept a small journal of my necromancer's adventures in /note.

Exactly, is this really that much of an effort that folks wouldnt want to do it with other like minded people for a little different experience in the game? Are we so full of min/maxers on this server that this can't be done?

Roleplaying is one thing I don't see often; however I do attempt to incourage it. I'll gladly assist in setting up a guild if you'd like.

I think you see a lack of roleplay at higher levels because 20-60 you become more self sufficent (some classes) and spend less time in town - you almost have to due to the high amount of XP required for that next level. We get concentrated on loot and levels and forget the little nicities of banter or how your character would be reacting to that near death experience from the giant that nearly killed them.

A guild would definately be the best option for roleplayers to find roleplayers - Anon vs RP you really can't tell a difference - this way you could always identify a roleplayer with the guild tag.

as for ideas behind it:

Light vs Dark might be viable; provided theres enough of a community for it. Bear in mind the only real PVP you'd get into would be arena; but it'd be more PVP than what this server sees outside of a GM hosted event.

'bad guys turned good' guild which includes other good races or verse visa -
an all race guild might work; although you'd really be limiting yourself

Diety worship guild

'Common Enemy' guild (dragons!)

Merchant guild

Merc guild - We're all adventurers right? This would eliminate as to why you'd have an ogre and a dwarf in the same guild/party. Sure you could Roleplay out the anamosity but still have that common goal.

To further the Merc Guild idea: Guild master/officer ship gets 'leads' on items/gear and we go and 'raid' the dungeon for the items (Guild event style) Perhaps the Guild Master / officership puts together a small fund or something and gets players out in the world together hunting down these 'quest' items (a level 1 quest would be something like; a rats eye, bone chips, and a Netted Cloth Shirt or something - the player is then rewarded with something small). This avoids 'hand outs.' from other classes.

I casually RPed back when i first started playing this way back when. The thing was that i just didn't know what I was doing. Now I've actually RPed more in other MMOs, I've always wanted to find a RP guild in EQ. The one I was in when i went back to the live server a few years ago was just full of alts, so it was basically five people with tons of alts, it wasn't that fun. Would love to see how this pans out, i would love to join in on an RP guild

I did semi-RP stories on the forums a long time ago, ended up getting a lot of tells and meeting a lot of people who were into RP. There are many people out there with a good state of mind for this kind of thing, they just need to be networked somehow, like in a guild.

It's tough because RP is something where people can have radically different styles and preferences. I rarely actually roleplayed in-game.

I'll make something. But I'd like some consensus from the majority on names and we need to flesh out ideas.

Its not just a 'make it happen' you need a name that people will recognize and catchy. Also a theme that fits the ability to allow all races and classes (i think its proper only because the server is small and alienation isn't my bag).

We had a guild on Quellious, Kelorn's Treasure Hunting Co, an RP guild with a similar theme. We did fun in game quests, hunted in unused dungeons, and "raided" out of use zones (old world to pop) We'd pick a zone and target, charge guild members with raiding the zone. Leader would have everyone assemble in our hall....either the unused large building in Kelethin or tombs in FOB, then assign quests to bring back a specific loot item. All the items looted on the hunt would be spread out to the members that hunted and the main item was usually sold with the profits spread out over the members that hunted. If the item was not worth enough plat, I payed out with my cash to keep everyone interested.

It might be a fun way for folks to level alts, do quests they wouldn't otherwise do, and explore zones that might not be the most lucrative to grinding.

Ya never know, think about it...You have a light race kind of guild, maybe even a dark race one, then you have that guild from Kunark...the yucky lizards...

Unfortunately i wont be able to join; I've recently started a dark elf mage which will I'll be maining as a friend who is new to EQ rolled a gnome wizard.
