Hello there.

I'm looking for some super smart people to help with a work related problem.

I need to figure out how someone can "spoof" a latitude and longitude or a GPS location using an Apple IPad.

I need to show how this is done and be able to duplicate this.

I know how this can be done on an Android device but I have little knowledge on Apple products.

You may assume the following

The program is called MotionX
The IPad is (probably) Jailbroken
The iPad is connected via its LTE air card.

Basically i have a short list of people who are collecting free checks using spoofed check ins.

Not familiar with the program, but is there a text type of read/write file from which it sends or receives data? Is bluetooth on?

Or a much simpler solution:

Bluetooth is not required the program is commercial GPS app akin to salesforce the user can use it to get directions or look at a map.

The company my client works for has a proprietary build of motionX that allows a supervisor to log into a website and check the current location of every device attached to his team.

What We suspect is that the culprit is using an IPad developer tool and/or a Jailbroken iPad to manually set the location of the ipad so when the supervisor checks he can show he is in the field and not sitting at home.

Just saw the edit.

Is there a way to show him downloading any of these apps? Even if he deletes them and reinstalls them every day?

Of that I am not sure. Unfortunately I am not that familiar with apple, but I do work with windows mobile devices in a similar way. Using motorola appcenter, we disable the ability of workers to use anything except for our applications. Furthermore, you can log/flag changes using something like Mortscript. If the 'client' using the ipad has full access to the system, well, you would need the device to report home with changes. Out of my element for apple, though. Good luck.

Thank you nilbog

What I'm thinking is his IPad is hooked up to his computer running an app dev tool and he is sending locations using his PC.

Not a big apple user her I need to find someone who has experience in apple development

Out of curiosity, what gave you the impression that he has software fixing his location? We use a similar program for invoicing that also gives a location stamp once an invoice is sent. It's actually how we found out one of our employees was sending in invoices from home when he wasn't supposed to be.

I was sitting in my car watching him when his boss called asking him to report.

He ran inside his home and his location pop'd up 20 minutes away

Wow. So now you just want to find out how he does it so you have proof? Or want to use it yourself? :p

I need to find out how he does it because his employer is 100% sure he has shown multiple people how to do it.

I investigate fraudulent claims for my company.

I have used this one a while ago. Was trying to get around some blacked out content to watch video over seas.

Was he holding his iOS device when you observed him going inside. I doubt he has to connect to any device to achieve what he is doing.

Who owns the ipad? If you suspect wide scale fraud, there are a few methods of combatting.

After you find out how he is doing it and shut it down there is going to be something someone else comes up with 6 months later. That's how it is in the technology field.

Make an example out of him and fire him in front of the other people you suspect he showed. I imagine it wont take much to get one of them will show you what he was doing and save you hours of research and you will have rid your company of a scumbag.

The Ipads are company owned and issued

sounds like if your company is issuing ipads for this purpose and also allowing additional apps to be downloaded used on them they are pretty fucking stupid

(considering you can limit what programs/apps that are on or allowed to be on the ipad before issue)

Just install a gps tracer and stealth it. If they are jail breaking the device, terminate them for tampering with company equipment. I'm like hurley fire one or two and the rest will fall in line.

Results of investigation:

Tiggles' company contacted by RnF trolls, explaining that he came to RnF asking how to do his job. Tiggles' company decides Tiggles is incompetent. Tiggles "laid off."

I laughed

Those guys actually got termed before they could figure out how they where doing it.

Maybe I could apply for there job
