Reminds me of how they convince us building sports stadiums for billionaires will bring in economic activity and the locals get stuck with the bill.

Is there a specific instance you're thinking of? Most English cities certainly don't need more sporting venues.

...and yeah I don't think anyone rushes to host the Olympics anymore lol
