What other MMORPGs have you guys played?
Sorry if a thread just like this has already been made. I just want to see what other MMOs failed to fill EQ's shoes for you guys.
My first mmo was EQ and since then I have basically played every fantasy mmorpg that has been released with any considerable hype to it. Some I played for one week and some for a couple years. None compare to Classic EQ...none. Following EQ I played... (this is all random order) DAoC LoTR Final Fantasy Online EQ2 City of Heroes WoW Diablo 2 Runescape (a little over 3 minutes, if that) Star Wars Galaxies Shadow Bane Age of Conan Warhammer Online Aion I feel like I'm missing a couple but that is the majority for sure.

EQ through GoD(ish - I stopped paying attention after awhile), followed by
CoHeroes for about a year, followed by EQ2 through its first expansion, followed by LoTRO (from alpha through Moria), concurrent with WoW (came in at Burning Crusade, only stopped recently), a very brief flirtation with Star Trek Online

How was Vanguard? I wanted it be like EQ in many aspects, but when it released I heard it was no where ready and didn't end up buying it.

EQ
Diablo 2 Vanguard WoW EQ2 Age of Conan Vanguard was pretty cool, it was nowhere near ready to be released when it was. Even so, it was very fun, in my opinion. From what I hear now, it has made a ton of progress and is quite good now. I keep meaning to resub and try it for a month again.

Personally, Vanguard is right after EQ on my list of favorite games. It offered a huge world, diverse races and unique classes and that's all I'm really asking. I play pretty casually(maybe ten hours a week if I'm lucky) so I could've played Vanguard for a long while and not run out of content, unfortunately the friends I was playing it with left and I with them, always thinking I'd come back when the game was a little more polished, and then the population just fell right out.
Honestly, with all its naive ambition I think Vanguard did more to set back the MMO industry than WoW, even. I don't think we'd see as many WoW-Clones if Vanguard hadn't failed so miserably in its attempt to provide an alternative, and I don't mean they failed in making a fun game, merely that they failed commercially, and spectacularly.

EQ
EQ2 UO AO SWG WOW WAR CoH Vanguard CoV Champions Online DaoC Conan Archlord Asherons Call Asherons Call 2 DnD online Eve Fallen Earth Final Fantasy XI Guild Wars Lineage 2 LotR Pirates of the Caribbean Online =) Ragnarok RF Online Ryzom Star Trek Tabula Rasa Obviously I couldn't have seriously played all of them. Most I just sampled for a month or two and canceled subs, but the point is I have played em.

I forgot about the four or five minutes I spent playing Pirates of the Caribbean.
