Default Client broken *rant*

Alright, not really a P99 issue, hence off topic... But I upgraded my system, and as a result wine upgraded, and ever since, my eq client just crashes. I wanted to play, but now I'm just too frustrated to deal with it. I may do a fresh install ( but I doubt this will fix it because my backup of a known good install is also crashing ) and see if I can fix it that way. Not really asking for help, just venting.

In any event, have fun people!

You updated your hardware and now your software won't behave as expected?

No, I updated my software, the hardware is still the same. And by software, I mean my OS, not EQ, I know not to update that. I updated from Fedora 38 to Fedora 39.

As for linux, try doing a new apt get or recompile your wine with a .make, the directories probalby changed so the d3d dll is missing or something wierd

copy the eq install into a fresh instance and drop in the backed up config inis

thats usually an easy fix

Is there no log file output anywhere from wine or the OS? That'd be a nice start, try launching it from a terminal, may be a user permissions issue. I would caution against doing a sudo there's a better way around user permissions usually than sudoing, butt that may be all it takes, if its your personal gaming pc with no important information it sudoing is acceptable.

Use playonlinux or lutris. Bottles works too.

Using wine alone is just asking for issues unless you like maintaining your own prefix.

I've been on a white russian kick myself lately, one of the few drinks both the wife and I enjoy plus we do bowl pretty often so it fits neatly into our lives

Origen, what do your drinking habits have to do with a thread about linux?

Maybe you have a problem that should get checked out:
