Exclamation Crashing often

About half the time I log in, zone, or logout, I experience a crash to desktop. After that, I typically have to wait a few minutes for my character to reconnect. It's not a major issue, but it's quite frustrating. Any suggestions? My PC is high-end, so I'm not anticipating needing any hardware upgrades.

Do you have compatibility mode on eqgame.exe set to xp sp2 or sp3?

xp sp2

I tried sp3 and had no luck either

Also running as admin

Downside of all this changing compatibility mode is all UI for all chars is lost every time I switch from sp2 to sp3 or any change to the eqgame.exe

I only ever run the game through WinEQ as I read on initial install that it was recommended to help avoid a variety of game crashing issues so maybe give that a try.

Also I've seen people report issues with using higher end setups that pertains to crashing caused by multi-core processors with recommendations to limit the game to running on a single core and some folks that have indicated some of the NVIDIA software that comes with their GPUs seems to impact crashing whereas AMD builds seem to avoid these, I run an NVIDIA/Intel multi core that was top end about 7-8 years back via WinEQ in compatability mode and its extremely rare that I ever experience a crash.

The wiki's tech support page has a number of suggestions.

UI Problem - delete (copy paste to somewhere else) UI file and test it , mostly happen while log in, zoning.
Compatibility problem - check Mcoy's answer
Light source problem - crash near light source, screen freeze but still working on background, try dgvoodoo2 ( this happens when you have nvidia 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 series)

Also, move your installs out of program files folks...
