No, any class is doable as a new player, it all boils down to how much downtime your willing to put up with. Any class can solo to 60, again it all depends on how much downtime you can tolerate.
While technically true, the skill of the player would define the quality of the journey.

Now im not a "bad" player, but I would not consider solo (newbie player) rogue if the other option is necro.

Ive read some great stories of how solo artists overcome some targets (sans consumables) that I prolly wouldnt think of.

Having said that, if you (OP) feel up to the challenge and are willing to try out of the box stuff it may work out great.

Given the fact you have (hard) time limits. I'd lvl a cash
cow necro/sham/druid/bard with time allowing, start the rog with some toys later.
Night blindness sucks but if ya prepared to endure it, hit that thang.

I think if we didn’t suggest at least leveling a couple classes, one to feed the melee with gear, it would be a disservice to the OP.

An EQ rogue is not like most elsewhere. They are horrid soloers with all but great gear. If the plan was to buddy-up…sure, it won’t be bad.

My rogue on live was pretty much self-found except a Dragoon Dirk a buddy gifted me at level 12. It took a long time and I learned a lot along the way. I played with poisons. Knowing what we know now, with a meager budget, it still is less painful than soloing a cleric to 60. That also presumes the OP is as much as a sadist as most of us. Finding a single spawn from like 52-60 and clocking in to grind hours ad nauseam.

What's wrong with soloing a cleric? Half the battle is knowing where to be (hint: undead mobs) and then it's just the usual timesink.

Indeed. Soloing a self found Rogue to 60 mostly requires some game knowledge on which easy single spawn mobs can be camped by a rogue, and at what levels you can get upgrades for your weapons.

It's just going to take significantly longer than solo leveling a Necromancer. At least 2-4x longer. That's why a lot of people don't end up self found soloing a Rogue to 60. It isn't challenging if you know what to do, it's just tedious.

Thanks! I have tried red before. It's too empty for my taste. If I wanted to play a dead server, I'd just roll my own EQEMU server.

It’s just single target killing; not good and not horrible. Non undead nukes are not much less efficient.

I killed Nobles and in stuff The Hole to like 57. The solution is finding an enchanter buddy who is farming.

Soloing a cleric to 60 is no more boring than a rogue. You just have less swagger.

I swear this was a term here given to a trick for achieving a solo backstab but the thread on it seems to have been nuked from existence [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
