Cant really guess the offhand, not enough PR/DR to be prismatic shield, little too much strength to be pearl kedge totem. Most likely is a Charred guardian shield.

Classic clients did not utilize a Strings file. Most things were hardcoded in the client or sent directly from the server in full plain text.

As the game expanded in other languages it became necessary to create the strings file for each one, and it also helped cut down on bandwidth.

Guessing this is a server-side thing, but another thing to change is that when pets kill themselves for whatever reason, or are simply dismissed, classicly they would slash themselves for 32,000 points of damage:
