I seek the wisdom of a eurudite. Why are there so many different musical interments like tubas and trumpets and flutes and harps and guitars and bases, but now there's no new ones?

I remember Robert E. Howard using the word 'erudite' at some point in the old Conan the Barbarian stories. Maybe one of the later authors. I get them mixed up.
