Maybe cannot completely oppress a society, then you are getting into the disparity between some civilian militia vs our military. Civilian militia would have no chance, the goal would be to hold out long enough for enough of the military to switch sides over the thought of massacring civilians. Otherwise winning against the military should be impossible due to difference in training and tech

Preventing perverting society with guns? Perversion is much more subtle than that IMO

When it comes to the idea of a civilian militia holding off the military, just look at the worthless Joe Schmo volunteers that actually went to try to assist Ukraine

With no military training even against Russia’s relatively shitty (compared to ours) military, these volunteers were nothing but a giant walking talking liability. Any without extensive previous military training were politely asked to GTFO to prevent them from not only dying right away but taking other Ukraine soldiers with them

That’s what happens when civilians think they can take on military

Really because last I looked it was the Republicans looking to get rid of food programs while advocating gun deregulation.

While it is the democrat party that embraces the federal gun buyback program to provide food and money.

And with all the rights Republicans are taking from minorities, women and LGBTq your party is becoming what you complain about.

One example is the Rush-Bagot Agreement between the United States and Great Britain, which has kept the Great Lakes disarmed since 1817.

Another example is the provision under the Versailles Treaty for the disarmament of Germany and its allies after World War I.

It’s probably a moot point because we are now better than ever before able to crank out guns or other makeshift weapons thanks to things like 3d printing

So even if a gov’t could snap their fingers and magically make all the guns from civilians disappear, if they felt there was a need, they’d start creating new ones

So really we are talking about the danger of a temporarily disarmed society. Would be much more difficult to disarm in a way that society couldn’t re-arm itself with today’s tech
