I used to haunt Dalnir with my monk after I sort of retired (2.0). Many years ago before Velious, I just sat there and helped probably 20+ young monks get the full set. I wonder if any of y'all I helped are reading this now!

What do you mean? Caster mobs have 8 spells memmed, right? Matching their class. By full spellbook do you mean they have spells beyond their level?
As an example I'm fairly certain no mob in EQ would cast dispel except evil eyes and mobs that can proc it like those tentacles in Fear. On P99 practically every single caster has access to a dispel to strip your buffs.

I believe Dolalin means certain mobs spawned with only 3 or 4 specific spells (which were often below level, such as a mobs using their level 20 nuke when they are level 29). And some casters were stupid easy as they would spam cast the same nuke over and over and it had a long cast time, so a single bash could interrupt and then they would try casting again (and you'd take no melee damage, maybe a single round if they were on global cool down)

The spells would often be themed to the mob, like fire goblins use fire spells.

Caster mobs loved dispelling on live too, usually two slot dispells, enc mobs did four slots when high enough level. Always had two junkbuffs in the first buffslots and tried to have less critical buffs in 3/4 with my monk.
Dispell isn’t all bad though, doesn’t break fd and doesn’t always strip your buffs even if it lands. Mobs had a limited spell set though but dispell was included in it )

Wow, I've forgotten how shocked I was by the NPC casters when I first got here. I was like "there's no way it was like this on live" ... and then (like all the other unclassic stuff here), I quickly got used to it and forgot it was even unclassic.

But man, if the dev team ever brought back real caster NPCs, the classic levels of the servers would rise through the roof!

i also remember mobs dispelling like crazy on live. especially shaman mobs, enchanter mobs - in places like sebilis. its probably still like that on live to this day. enchanter mobs were always tough because they would dispell your buffs - cleric mobs were always tough because theyd dispell your buffs and heal themselves. shaman mobs ... well theyd slow you, dspell you and heal themselves and krup shaman were the bane of my existence in Seb groups early 2000s

I'm curious if anyone out there has looked at the EQEmulator code base, and might be able to speculate why P99 has never addressed this. Or perhaps, it's not technical, and it's just a matter of "we have no idea what spells each mob in each zone had, so we're not even going to try"?

I'm pretty sure nilbog has made mention of leaving characters afk in live dungeons to log what spells they cast. Not a bad baseline tbh, best info to go on without specific logs on each mob from era (near impossible to gather that much accurate data)

Just a guess but could agro a bunch of mobs and leave afk to check what offensive spells they have memmed (he probably did this as a follow up)
