Default p99 needs patched

looks like this is going to have to manifest into a big enough issue for something to be done about it. Were trying to play a game on computers that can execute at a rate that was never thought imaginable at the time when we were all playing on dial up modems.

Alienware and other gaming computer companies remove clocking options so that people can not ruin their computers unintentionally.

Had to update my rig in order to handle modern games. Rig has an AMD 7900x @4.7 and am having the same issues as others in this thread. I can handle unzipping files etc but am not comfortable going into BIOS to tinker with settings. I really don't want to buy a separate rig just for EQ.. Anyone able to help a boomer out?? Sucks because I was getting the itch to revisit Norath [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Surely Pcs will be good enough to emulate a decent 2002 box which can run Titanium nicely - self solving problem?

Maybe too technical? I couldn’t tbh.

[QUOTE=atomos;3600142]There is a workaround such that you don't have to downclock.

1) Set all core CCX manual clock to 4 or 4.2 Ghz in BIOS

2) Install AMD Ryzen Master software

https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master

3) Every time you boot up PC or wake up from sleep - open Ryzen Master, set ECO or DEFAULT profile. This returns CPU clock/boost to normal out of box behavior and overrides BIOS manual setting.

4) Play EQ, or do whatever!

Seems like this would be the best solution with the problem I'm having. Has anyone ran into any problems going this route?

I've also read that WinEQ/WinEQ2 might solve the issue?

I tried the AMD Ryzen Master Software and if you are on an alienware or another gaming computer company that has clocking options disabled you can cause an internal error that will prevent your computer from booting. speaking from experience - took me about 40 reboots/failed boots to get to the point where I could get the computer back to factory default so that it would start up again.

*edit - also computers are coming out with processor speeds over 4.2ghz without being overclocked and from what I have read is the main culprit.

have you tried right clicking on the eqgame.exe file in your p99 directory, and setting the compatibility mode to windows SP3 and setting it as run as administrator? Funny how many things this seems to fix. Also, if you're running it from your downloads folder, might think of putting it somewhere else.

I'm seeing this on a CPU below 4.2GHz.

I've got a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, core ratio is set to 34 and locked, I don't think it's changeable on this CPU or motherboard (Gigabyte B450 Aorus M). I've disabled all the game boost and auto boost properties I could find for my motherboard and 19 times out of 20 that I try to launch P1999 Blue Server I wind up with the error 1017 pop-up.

Any ideas on how to fix it on this CPU? It seems totally random, sometimes it'll work, but 95% of the time I get the error 1017 and it'll never work until I reboot. If p1999 launches on the first shot, it's fine, but I've never gotten it to work once I see that error.

I'll try the Ryzen master software and report back.

Ping! Is there any fix for this yet? Apparently this issue was fixed for Project Quarm already: https://www.reddit.com/r/project1999...bfeid/amd_cpu/. I'd love to get back into P99 again, but sadly I am in the forbidden CPU club for the time being.

I have a fix for this. My CPU is an R9 7950x my default CPU modifier is 45x100 totaling in 4.5Ghz speed base clock. I was able to make P1999 100% stable by simply booting into my bios and setting my CPU multiplier to 42x100 so now my base clock speed is 4.2ghz. I’ve had zero crashes and it ALWAYS let’s me login without a hitch whatsoever. At first I was upset because nobody buys this CPU so you can underclock it..you buy this CPU to do the exact opposite 😂..but with all that being said, I have not noticed any real world performance issues whatsoever in any other newer games at all.

I hope this helps you and others out and hopefully people read this thread because I have spent over 10 days on this and finally found a compromise I was willing to deal with.

Good luck!
where exactly are you changing the speed of processor i have asus primeb550+ i dont see a place to manually change it that looks what you described ive wrestled with this problem for so long months i found some success with a VM but ultimately led to crashes also. any help would be greatly appreciated
