I think it's absolutely lame that Epics are routinely sold off instead of the character actually experiencing the questline itself - but JBoots at 4k is way more convenient than actually camping AC and Rapier. Coming from someone who has farmed it for himself and farmed the plat for the MQ.

Generally agree with you on that, but in this case I think it's kind of necessary for some epics. Because some require drops from highly contested raid mobs that the top 1 or 2 guild(s) always kill, you may not actually have the option to experience the full quest line yourself if you don't have the time to raid all the time and accumulate a bunch of DKP to spend on the drop.

back in the day this wasn't as much of an issue because expansions progressed and so smaller guilds could backfill and get their epics when like SoL came out for example. But on a time locked server it's simply a fact of life.

The other thing on the "always 5k" comment, is that's what these people try to ask for. It doesn't mean you have to pay that. The last two sets of JBoots I purchased were I think like 4k and then maybe 4.3k? Don't just accept the 5k, try to negotiate it down. Most sellers will take less, especially on something like J Boots where so many alts already have them.

Some farmers are indeed monopolizing it in an attempt to manipulate the price and keep it high. Those aren't the people selling it for less than 5k, but if you're patient you can get it for a bargain and closer to what the equilibrium price should be.

I think we all would be better off if the jboots quest was changed so it only required the ring from the ancient cyclops and thus could not be multiquested. This ring is now exclusively farmed by people who just want to sell the MQ and nobody who is actually trying to do the quest can anymore.
