Ran across something pretty interesting. It's an online hosting of tabletop games called:

SceneGrinder

From the FAQ:

What games can SceneGrinder handle?

Dungeons and Dragons®, Advanced or otherwise, Hero System®, d20®, Pathfinder®, Risus, Microlite20... pretty much anything there's a template for. You can create your own templates or borrow and adapt templates from other members who published theirs.

Virtual tabletop games. Why didn't I think of that?
I've been playing through FantasyGrounds, but this... Wow. This is awesome.

TSR > WotC
Amen.

Started in the way back, prob. c1976, so that's first ed (though not the reaaaal way back). I do recall the "change" to Advanced D&D hitting sometime early in High School for me, that must have been about '80 or '81.

Personally fond of the 2nd Ed. ruleset, myself; I enjoyed both 3rd Ed and 3.5 Ed., but gave up trying to keep up on the game after that point. On the occasions when I do sometimes still play with the "old gang" we use the 3.5 Ed as a base.

Ran many a campaign as a DM, and played a Fighter & Druid as a part of a really epic campaign that took a group of us "nerd-buds" through the high school and college years - an common experience, no doubt [You must be logged in to view images. Truth be told, over the years, I think I've come to favor GURPS over all, for flexibility/customization reasons. But, in truth, I haven't tabletopped regularly for at least the last 10 years.

Hasbin, your FF pic inspires; this is for you:

and because there ain't no cheesy cartoon porn like cheesy D&D cartoon porn:

Didn't check out SceneGrinder yet. But it must be relatively new because some friends and I used to run games over the internet using some D&D program I can't remember the name of (think it was fairly popular so someone probably knows it). You could create grid maps and all kinds of cool stuff; in a way it was easier than doing it traditionally.

Haven't played a non-online game in years since everyone I knew who liked to play all moved to weird places. Like Canada. Fucking Canada.

I love 2nd edition AD&D. Played it for close to fifteen years between the army and at home. When 3rd came out I got pissed. I lost my gaming group over the years and a buddy sucked me in the last year or so. Started playing 3.5, it isn't bad but there is a lot that I don't like.

(not that that has anything to do with anything - it popped up on the Tomb of Horrors search, and I just thought it was funny as hell)

It's all about AD&D 2nd Edition.
2.5 was so massive, it was virtually unplayable. Which is what I loved about it.

I'd spend days making a character, get too drunk while playing and forget all about it. That's the sum of my D&D experience - I'd rather make a character than play one.

We played v.2 & 3. Character sheets, lots of books, dice, some figurines. Hi I loved painting those precious little things and keep my blue dragon in my kitchen window still.

Hubby & I actually met on the way to a D&D game [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Mutual friend of ours picked me up then swung by to get him. He looked over his shoulder with a speculative gleam in his eye and he's been my DM ever since, lol. I'm the only cleric I know of that had a pet shoulder dragon [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I played a healer of course. Our parties varied in size from 4 to 12 people depending on who wanted to party. We had a friend who didn't play but was our bard and would sit in the background playing his guitar, lol. Another friend (RIP) who had a little man's complex, he always played a guy who's ride was an ogre and did the most outrageous chit creating more adventure on his own we could often handle.

I learned quickly don't ask for wishes, you'd get them instantly, behind every bush! But wording those wishes took FOREVER and he'd fork us every time. Fireballs in dungeons are bad. Approach water with caution. Stealing dice and lighters was acceptable. Leaving the table setup to play for weeks was the norm.

We've still got our books & dice tho we haven't played in years now, everyone scattered to the winds over the years. I miss the fun and companionship of those house parties, we had a blast.

Great thread!
