Default New to p99, iksar war, best way to gear up.

Hi guys,

Decided to finally give p99 a crack, started on Green about a week ago. Previously played Everquest on fennin ro from around 99-2002 and played a bit of tlp a couple of years ago. Everyone has been very friendly here, i initially was going to wait in case they made a new p99 but figured i might as well jump in rather than wait on something that might never happen.

I enjoy warrior so made an Iksar warrior as I always enjoyed that part of the world. I am just about to hit 8 and its honestly taken a week, i forgot how long levelling used to take. Is there anything in particular I should try and do to make some plat, I've been saving bone chips and spider silk to sell but struggled to sell much at all, do i need to go to EC tunnel to be able to sell reliably? Is there something obvious i should be doing in FoB to get ahead or at least be able to loot some armor/weapons?

I managed to scrounge together some plat and get a couple of pieces of banded and leather so far but apart from that its pretty much what I've found and it feels a real struggle. I am almost permanently encumbered and it seems I probably need at least 100plat just to get a new weapon which at this rate is going to take a bit. Any advice on where i should hunt for iksar warrior upgrades? Is it possible to buy trooper scale and if so, what does it cost usually? I tried doing the pike quest and i was in swamp of no hope for ages looking for froglok escorts and gave up eventually =). Any advice would be appreciated as I've only ever played iksar monks and usually had a at least a few starter bits of gear. Lots of questions, regardless its been fun seeing so many people still levelling and almost all friendly.

Have even considered maybe I should make a different race warrior or maybe a halfling cleric as an alternative if its easier to progress. Cheers.

There is a strong iksar community on green.

They’ll furnish you with cultural armour and equipment. There is a guild dedicated to helping out young iksar. You’ll see them around field of bone.

Ancient Blood or summat.

It's not an easy path (20% xp penalty like trolls) and some people prefer other races for the cobalt clicks.

That said, you have to look at the char every day. Once you finally start leveling up and even hit 60 you will look at every iksar warrior with longing, lol. It's better to just be that and happy with it.

Don't overlook the decaying skellys who carry the shields. They're worth over 1 plat and it adds up a bit. It takes time sure but enjoy the journey and don't rush.. ancient blood is a great community and often are buffing folks at the newbie ramp

Yes you will be able to sell your bone chips and what not in ec. People will be generous there as well to new players. Bone chips are definitely a good way to get some Plat early

Curscale* -> Banded -> jarsath scale -> legionnaire scale is the route i took on my iksar was was a good fun project!

*the skins from the tiny stegadons you speak to the bristlesilk silk merchant outside monk guild to get a bag to carry/combine them in and hand in for armor.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips. You are right, what I really need to do is make a few friends in game, it’s relatively quiet when I play but will try a bit more to group up.

Need to get to EC to sell the chips it sounds like, might just keep gathering til have a heap to justify the trip. You are right about the shields, when I see a skeleton with one I run to them =)

Sorry my answer was horrendous.

Yea with a few cheap donated weapons you will definitely get to the point where it’s not horrible. Make buddies with a healer and eventually selling bronze and fine steel will upgrade your gear quickly.

In the meantime though I would be honest about being new on whatever server. With an ounce of social skill people will usually check and empty out their vendors of lower gear. Jarsath trident and fist of zek or even a jade mace. Lots of cheap warrior weapons, some banded and fire wedding rings and you are off to the races. Solo wise it’s tough without really good gear but a lot of people used to still do it even on classic. They just went through a lot of bandages and sat a long time regenning hps..
