Default Monk (Trio) With Zero Funds

Myself and two others are starting a new project.

Three Iksars: monk / necro / shaman. Zero outside plat, but not "self found." Meaning we can make our own plat and eventually buy stuff in EC.

I'll be piloting the monk, swinging them fists out of the gate. I've never dealt with low level / zero twink gearing.

Anything critical to know / tips / etc starting out? I've never played EQ in this pure sense...hit p99 with a silver spoon b/c RL buds were already well established and hooked it up at level 1.

I know the wu's weapons are great, but I'm talking even before access to that. Are there any worthwhile low level quest items / etc that would be helpful with this project? Can also take tips for the shaman and necro, or just plat quests in general in Cabilis.

Curscale Armor is all I got so far (lol).

Aaaaaand go.

Should do mostly self found if you want to get more of a classic experience. Or at least stick to the "pre-Planar" gear section on wiki. The abundance and cheapness of gear in EC tunnel is radically different from how it was in 2000/2001.

To emulate random driveby newbie gifting (like live for me was) allow a couple of random EC purchases that make sense from a roleplay point of view.

My advice if you want o have a lot of fun is to gear up with as many quests as you can and not buy anything until at least level 20.

I have a feeling there are more than a few great quests for monk out in lizardland

I also recommend learning how to make patchwork armor to get some AC early on in the newbie areas.

This looks good for newbies instead of doing patchwork: https://wiki.project1999.com/Curscale_Armor_Quest
(Oh i see you got that one already, well there it is for posterity ha)

This looks like its hard to the point you could be buying gear but, if you have a shaman: https://wiki.project1999.com/Scaled_Mystic_Armor_Quests

Monk armor doesn't look to hard to make: https://wiki.project1999.com/Sparring_Armor

Prob gotta do this for the sake of doing it: https://wiki.project1999.com/Monk_Shackle_Quests

idk, yeah, quests! You also might be able to find some good plat making camps using these quests, sometimes quest mobs drop sellable stuff that you can get a few starter plat from, but idk much about cabalis.

Good FoB drops for new players.

These look tough, but maybe you can get them in your teens in FoB.

late teens armor upgrade? https://wiki.project1999.com/Reinforced_Rhino_Armor

Level 10-15 mob items:

Obvs some trinkets from Kurns would be good to get for your gang..

looks like youll want to figure out of you can get this guy to spawn while your there:

That'll setup your monk haha

You can farm a ton of spider silk in Field of Bone, save it and use it to level tailoring and craft yourself and the Necro suits of Raw Silk armor. You can also craft yourself some bags. The trivials for Raw Silk are very low and it doesn't take long to level. Absolutely worth doing, even if you don't want to invest the time to progress further to crafting Cured Silk/Wu's.

Level in FoB 1-10, then hit Kurn's until 20. Great ZEM and enough bone chips for the Necro to hit 60. Then move to the giant fort in WW. You can get forest giant hammers (10/35) for yourself and the Shaman quite easily. Heavy but better ratio than your fists until level 30. The giants drop a lot of vendor trash weapons which will finance your Shaman and Necro spells quite nicely. If you're lucky you might see a Forest Loop or two which vendor for 300pp or so.

Around level 30 hit Dalnir and camp Lumpy Goo for a pair of Fighting Batons (8/20). These will last you quite awhile. Dalnir is kind of a death trap at that level so I wouldn't recommend sticking around long. But it's not too hard to get in and camp Lumpy Goo and then invis out to the exit. If you do stick around, try to get yourself some Crescent Armor. All the pieces are fairly decent and obviously upgrades over Raw Silk.

Not sure if you're trying to level exclusively in Kunark, if not 30+ would be prime time to hit the old world dungeons for XP. If you want to stay on Kunark, you can level safely outdoors in that range in FV/OT, or try out Kaesora/Nurga/Dalnir if you're feeling spicy (I'd focus on Kaesora since the Necro can charm there and also lull undead which will help a lot). Sage's Battle Staff is a 25/40 2HB that's obtainable in Kaesora.

Ultimately, you want to end up in City of Mist around level 40. There you can camp the Wu's Quivering Staff (23/28), which is far and away your best weapon until IFS/PB/T-Staff and much more easily acquired than those three. CoM will easily take you to 50 with your Wu's Staff and Necro charm DPS. By then you should have farmed enough cash for FBSS/SCHW and some decent fill-in gear and can hit KC or get keyed for Seb/HS.

Raw silk is about as good as you can look as a newbie monk!

Outfit the monk’s visible slots with bristlesilk - for some reason (except chest) it has a cool velious look.

Also a bunch of free bags you can be given in cabilis at level 1 if you care for that.

Iirc the large scorpion / geozite tool quest at war guild is ok xp.

Iksar berserker club is super sweet but camping it will trash badger faction and it can be pretty rare -don’t get hung up on it at least tthe ph is a fair fine steel camp to fund a wqs/whatever).

Maybe not critical but the monk headband quest can be fun. I got full monk guild faction on my iksar in qeynos/freeport with a bit of orc/gnoll grinding. Havingfaction in the human cities really made the world feel more open for my monk and porting without invis etc.

Raw silk too. Has the cool flames on lizard pants look at level 5. The chest is actually a robe, and it covers the rest of the cool armor, so don't wear the chest

At low levels people will inspect you and randomly give you weapons. With no self twinking at all, a level 15 iksar monk will usually have some bizarre set of 1hb weapons before they get their wu staff
