D&D is a violent crime simulation, and CRPGs are solitary confinement for the criminally insane. The difference between a multiplayer CRPG and an MMORPG is that an MMORPG has prison wardens and guards who are only slightly less corrupt than you are. This is the life that you chose for yourself. You are free to leave at any time.

Honestly I never understood why training was banned. It's part of the game. Trains are classic. What was the official stance on live back in 1999?
When EQ first launched it was highly dependent on the server. There wasn't a PNP because the devs had no idea one would be needed. As emergent behavior came out and people started griefing etc. the GMs on different servers would take different stances. Some would do nothing, some would issue punishments. By the end of 1999 the PNP was drafted and put out to ensure consistency in rules across severs and ban things like training, kill stealing, etc.

It's amazing that the devs never saw a monk flopping a train in front of a group would be a thing. On Kings and Bandits people would just DA a lv 1 cleric through SolB and drop huge trains. Honestly it was fun going back and forth until one group prevailed. I admit I trained people all the time on live and there were so many people rep did not matter because of the different time zones etc.

The premise seems to be, time was wasted in ways the normal person would never understand, and if you told them, they would block you on social media. This time was wasted in several senses, and in fact has a longitudinal record of worrisome dimensions.

Shit's classic

It was a simpler time in the early days of the Internet where people didn't conceive that people would be dicks on the Internet for no reason (false assumption clearly).

Wish the servers I was CSR on had been one of yours, would've enjoyed banning you for those trains [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

people in UO were doing insanely mean shit, EQ devs really didn't have an excuse.

and MUDs were pvp also, i got fucked up daily on LORD as a kid. used to just hang out in the tavern with that whore where it was safe.

i remember jacking Haden from someone using charm as a enchanter in 99 and the guide that responded to the other players petition literally didn't know wtf to do about it

Reminds me of that south park episode “how do you kill that which has no life?”

It was at this point I decided to no longer be kind to the casuals as they have extreme short term memory. They did this to themselves, unfortunately.

Good training is truly an art form, especially when you need to do it without getting caught. Necrious in VP was like a Jedi Master

imagine making a game in 1999 and in 2025 you're like "that's it!"

daybreak devs should take the live servers down for a year and then relaunch the original game like nothing ever happened

might be able to just go down for a month, people dont have much of a memory anymore
