People care that they changed the character.

Lore, canon, mythology, and legend seem to be more important to us than we realize. If Star Wars turned Luke Skywalker into a frog for future episodes, people would react the same. These stories are almost ingrained into us. You neurologically upset the apple cart by messing with that.

Also, it's all a marketing ploy by Disney. They don't care about representation. They care about money, and the quickest way to market your product is to make people angry and share your movie trailer, making it go viral.

If the mermaid was white, I would have never known this was a movie.

Lol I highly doubt it’s true. It’s just been a stereotype that black people cant swim, I guess it could be seen as a negative stereotype but honestly one I’ve seen pushed mostly by black people back in the day

And when I say back in the day, I have met a lot of black people in behavioral health. My coworker I worked with yesterday is a black dude who plays semi-pro football and swims laps at his gym multiple times a week, probably better than I since I such at swimming
