Ukranian forces have retaken 7 km^2 of the city just overnight:

Last I heard Prigozhin is no longer retreating after receiving supplies and assurances of more.

But who knows? You can't trust a thing these Russians say.

German army has received confirmation that the eighteen Leopard 2A6's that Germany sent are now being used in battle.

German source but you can translate.

Quote:
+++ 07:20 General Inspector: Leopard 2 tanks from Germany are in combat +++
The General Inspector of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer, received confirmation during his visit to Ukraine last week that the Leopard -2 tanks can be used in battles. "What was made clear to me is that they are in action," says Breuer of the modern 2A6 models. The Ukrainian armed forces received 18 of these from the Federal Republic . The Inspector General also found out about practical experience with German military aid in Ukraine, including modern anti-aircraft systems and self-propelled howitzers.

Now we're getting somewhere!

Quote:

The UK has supplied Ukraine with multiple Storm Shadow cruise missiles, a Western official has said, making it the first country to send long-range missiles to the country in its war against Ukraine

The £2.2m Storm Shadow is a long-range missile with stealth capabilities and has a firing range of more than 155 miles, which is sufficient range to strike deep into Russian-held territory to the east of Ukraine. The missiles will Ukraine new long-range strike capability ahead of the highly-anticipated spring counter-offensive.

A Western official told CNN, who first reported the decision, that the UK has received assurances from the Ukrainian government that the Storm Shadows will only be used within sovereign territory and not inside Russia.

A senior US military official told the American news outlet that the missile is “a real game changer from a range perspective”.

eh. don't get me wrong its great that the ukrainians are getting some decent tech

but that thing still just carries a 1000lb warhead. it's a stealthy cruise missile with only half the boom of a JDAM

so at the end of the day, its just another building/structure killer. and chances are they aren't going to be fielded in enough numbers to make a real difference.

for all the dazzle and pizazz of advanced western weaponry, all of it needs to be fielded in thousands of units each in order to rapidly resecure the post-soviet ukrainian borders. that's proper combined arms warfare

my friends, sit back and enjoy the proxy war as the NATO MIC tests and plays with it's newest toys, it's going to be popping off for quite awhile yet. As a war enthusiast, that's just fine by me. This one is gonna produce some great war films.

the coming spring offensive is going to be one hell of a show. as I type this, 60,000 ukrainian soldiers who spent the past 12 months training in NATO countries are making their first entrance into theater.

they are well trained, they are well equipped, and they are pissed off.

But most important of all, they are not fighting for an ideology or a tyrant, they are fighting for their Homeland

This is how the game changes.

"Ukraine is getting owned." Whether they are or aren't isn't Russia like 10x the size of Ukraine?

But Russia doesn't have the zerg it had in WW2 nor the popular support to support such a zerg.

A huge chunk of the Russian "zerg" in ww2 was Ukranian, ironically enough. I see estimates of 40-45%.
