I don't think people are quitting, as much as they are waiting for Kunark. Classic EQ gets very boring after being 50 for a few days. Kunark with epics is when the game really shined.

literally half the classes aren't viable til kunark

(all melees [weps/discs], any class that can be iksar [ac/regen > plate], etc)
