If you want to modernize the Peter Pan story, instead of cramming girls into the “Lost Boys” and blackifying Tinker Bell, why don’t you make the story instead about those weird ass adults who clearly have Peter Pan syndrome, so scared of “adulting” that they are 1/4th of the children‘s toy market these days?

Could have other adults who like to roleplay as babies shitting in diapers too. A Peter Pan for modern audiences

Could have it end with Captain Hook and his pirates cutting through the adult Lost Boy’s plastic toy swords and massacring them all. Would send a more poignant message

they never heard the words, no, you can't, or were never taught integrity and tenacity.

they were all born into cotton candy coddle worlds where there was no punishment for misbehavior and their gen X parents are decent citizens but shitty role models because they thought it was wrong to discipline their children

now we've got 2 generations of humans who grew up without any structure, solid belief systems or integrity that think the reason they can't pick orders fast enough at the amazon warehouse is because someone else is racist, sexist etc

they now harbor this resentment until it becomes a raging boil of psychosis and then the lash out at the society that they perceive as the source of all their ails, when in fact it's only because they never learned to emotionally stand on their own 2 feet.
