Nice. Sounds like you've got a plan! When I sold and relocated from UT i was heavily considering Texas. I ended up deciding against it bc there's just too many fucking people over there. I picked a small town in WY instead. I'm still not quite to the homesteading part yet...but at least I own it and avoided a mortgage.
Texas has a bunch of shitheads from California who change lanes without looking, I can’t imagine how bad driving in LA is based on the transplants here

I’m moving ASAP, I think I’ll be guilted into Colorado by my children but wyoming is a solid choice. Sheridan, WY is #1 on my list

Hate to break it to you, but we're everywhere in the mountain west, including wyoming. You're going to have to be way out in the sticks to avoid our mcmansions and yuppie shopping centers

Before any of us was born the important take away from California was well established.

idk, in my experience the worst drivers in the country have been southerners, followed closely by people from New Jersey and Boston. PNW has the best drivers. California is right in the middle, though it's a huge state and there are some differences regionally.

I think what you're noticing is the rudeness and general lack of concern for others that increasingly pervades everyday life... it extends to driving. Drivers seem noticeably worse than 10 years ago everywhere, imo

I’m basically in the same climate as Wyoming as of now, just got 12 inches of snow last night. The winter is so long I think it prohibits growing much. Obviously people do, but I’d prefer somewhere a little warmer.
Look here. https://insteading.com/blog/underground-greenhouse/
Im sure there are other climate approriate sites around as well.

I live in a place where it does not snow every year (but it frosts quite often), but when it does it fucks everything planted so its more a mitigation type thing for us. Im sussing it out right now.
