I too was a grown adult when eq came out. What was magical about for me (us) we used to gather for AD&D sessions still. As we aged we moved, Online EQ allowed us to "D&D" from the comfort of our homes.
Working out the meta (compared to d&d) was the "magical" bit for us. Linear movement through a dungeon while less XP was for us massively enjoyable.
Rog sneaking, selecting targets to lull or monk flopping on bad pull etc. Wiz for evacs, trinity as base mnk rog.
Just like our d&d campaign.

I do get it that adults dont do as much wonderment as kids, but i dunno im pretty childish. :+P
