yikes.

1) you can loot the gear you give to your charm pet

2) charm pets, when done right, do *literally* ten times more damage than a summoned pet.

3) as for their tanking, few options - can you snare it? do so and camp or fd. 5% per tick. no? root it and camp in and out. also, most classes can do the tanking themselves while the pet shreds. also fear. also, pet weapons and items are critical. conflagration dagger, earthen blade, staff of undead legions, blood point, on and on. tolapumj robe, 2x bands, rusty shoulders. haste.

----

ALL THAT ASIDE.

theres the other way to charm kill.

charm a mob. send it into other mobs. root all. when its low hp, break charm. finish off low hp former pet. charm the next one. repeat.

my favorite thing about fully arming a pet with all the best pet gear is taking a shower and remembering you gated out of sebilis last night.

I can't imagine an animation keeping up. My enchanters 35 in CT. Lizard with an adamantite Bo stick and some -mr gear absolutely shreds, keeping up DPS with a rogue with half decent twink gear.

What distorts the comparison for me is I always keep animation hasted, while I never haste a charmed pet when solo (although I will in a group). For solo charming, the bigger problem isn’t the pet’s dps, it’s its ability to take hits. Unless there’s more than a 3 level difference, my charmed pets are below 30% health by the second or third mob they’ve killed. So I prefer to just kill them rather than try to blur heal

Plus the other downside of making a monster pet solo is that it’s taking 50% exp. This is why reverse charming will always be the best exp/hour, although making a monster pet is def max fun

Yeah for soloing all you need to do is make sure the pet and target are relatively close in HP's. Don't want one too much stronger than the other, very different scenarios

Ya

And speaking of the adamantite bo stick, I wonder would a weighted axe do anything for a charmed pet? I found one recently and remember hearing that used to make pets ridic because of the high damage, but this might have been back in vanilla EQ

I don't think pets use that anymore. The Bo stick is awesome on pets and very cheap
