If you're really bored or find religious politic interesting, this issue is being raised in Britain again as of late. This article does a pretty good job of educating on the different facets of Sharia finance.

It varies from country to country. Some countries have more bizarre loopholes than others. But an observant tan skin cannot be involved in any direct usury business or accept a direct loan. So instead its done through indirect loans. As far as I know, even the most hardcore Sharia countries still allow you to take out a car note. If you can slap a hardcore Sharia country in my face as an example of a NO LOAN ZONE I'd be legit surprised.

I'm under the weather so can't give you the cliffs on what an indirect loan is, but I do know that the Islams invented it. And according to the Guardian, they are "inventing" a whole new "sector" of semi-circle handjuggling finance.
