Luckily we live in a constitutional republic and not a democracy. It still takes a two-thirds vote in congress to really change things as you describe ...well apart form activist judges which usurps our constitution ...along with presidential executive orders and any such BS activists use to trodden our constitutional rights.

You omitted 3rd party voters which are not necessarily independent, but sometimes do vote across party lines. Example: I've been a member of a third party for decades. have always been, I am not independent of a party. We have nominations, get our party nominees on general election ballots (at least in most states), and vote as party members.
