You're gonna miss the 225 rainy days/yr in Washington. Hope you like 105 degree heat and 82 dewpoints.
Invest in a safe room or storm cellar or basement if possible.

Just thought I'd pop in. I thought I heard screaming coming from this thread. Is everything okay in here?

Everyone in Texas uses air conditioner everywhere. Ft. Worth is a slightly lower income side of Dallas, and therefore more crime involved etc. You will be at the southern portion of Tornado Alley but it's rare and not a big priority. On the plus side, everyone is utilizing their 2nd Amendment rights to bear arms and this actually deters all but the most stupid of criminals/activists. I don't know what that person was referring too in regards to your children leaving white people blah blah ignorant talk blah blah...but there are people of all heritages and cultures in Texas and it is quite diverse. The Tex-Mex food is delicious and yes, there is an actual difference in Tex-Mex versus Mexican food. Cumin and Cilantro are not native to Mexico. The King of Spain declared many families of the Azore isles Nobility and moved them to San Antonio to help "keep the gringos out" and they brought these spices with them, hence, Tex-Mex. The Spring and Fall seasons are quite comfortable, while the winters are mild and the summer's hot. Keep in mind people in Texas don't know how to drive with ice/snow on the roads so there will be lots of accidents and that's why most schools close whenever there is ice on the roads. Overall Texas is a wonderful state with lots to do and I think you'll find it enjoyable for the most part. No state income tax is a great thing too. Cheers!

Oh, keep in mind Flood Zones when choosing your property. Flooding is major problem in Texas every few years and most people don't think about this before choosing their property, only to see it washed away in 10 years.

If you ever get the chance, swing out to Ft. Sumter area about an hour west of the border in New Mexico and check out Billy The Kid's grave. It's something special and the area is quite beautiful as well.

Lubbock got an F5 in May '70, Jarrell an F5 in May 97, Dallas an F3 in April '57, Wichita Falls an F4 April '79 - invest in a safe room if cellars aren't viable.
