Why is snowflake the insult of choice in 2019? Snowflakes are beautiful. Unique. Genderless or gender all-encompassing (depending upon your viewpoint).

It's a reference to "special snowflake" - the stereotype of children of the era of participation trophies, lawnmower parents, and the ones that were affirmed that they were a winner for basically showing up. They act in such a manner that everyone must cater to their whims about how they are unique and beautiful and special. (The reality is that while everyone is unique, no one is all that particularly special by default. Everyone has their own shit to worry about; if you want me to care about your uniqueness, it should be as part of a mutually respectful and beneficial interpersonal relationship. Not just because you exist.)

It has been mutilated into "melts under pressure" or "easily offended at the drop of a hat" which is really only a side effect of being a special snowflake that isn't immediately affirmed by everyone around them.
