Sega systems all had something in common, they were very complex to program. More could be done with them, but the complexity required wizard programmers, something that just wasn't in great abundance, especially if the market pulled them to better selling systems with higher game distribution. Nintendo and Sony programming specialists could crank out the titles, while good Sega programmers were just harder to find.
This sounds like another critical issue for Sega. It makes sense considering how few games were ported to Dreamcast. I think its fair to say in retrospect that developers were absolutely avoiding Sega.

A possible issue for Dreamcast demise aside from lack of system sales was the fact that you could burn copies of games with nothing extra needed. There was like no DRM and online wasn't a forced thing then so they couldn't force patches or anything. Oh what a time to be alive.

I still see nerds spazzing in Steam reviews over DRM in 2016 without fail on every new title that comes out.

"DO NOT BUY DRM PIECE OF SHIT" every negative review on any game. Fighting the good fight. Make piracy great again!

when I bought my genesis, there wasn't even a super nintendo option

Even then, most of snes best games were single player and didn't release until mid 90s

Gonna guess someone who doesn't know how good genesis was probably just too young. Sounds a lot like new mmo players commenting about how much better WoW was than EQ.

I had/have both of them. I still play some of the games on a retrogen.

I think I would vote SNES because of the library of games. Despite genesis mortal kombat having blood code, I still liked playing mk2 on the snes better. Lots of fighting games back then; Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, and Killer Instinct I think played better on snes.

Genesis I really liked Shining Force and the Pirates! remake.

Genesis controller was pretty bad for fighting games. Had to have the 6 button. Im with you though SNES is better overall but I think some people think its cool to hate on SEGA now but they were pretty popular at the time.

The 6-button controller was amazing for fighting games. Loved having the same button layout as an arcade stick when playing Street Fighter.

I still think the Sega Genesis was the superior console for beat 'em ups, fighting games, and arcade ports.

If you were a lonely kid who just wanted single-player RPGs and platformers, then the SNES was better.

Most people from greater socioeconomic backgrounds don't have as many "friends".

Its like Protoss vs Zerg as far as cultural divide goes. Rich and well-off being the Protoss culture. Intelligence also makes for more selective social choices. The Protoss were depicted in SC1 as mostly loners and a-man-is-an-island type of people.

Rich people for some reason hate other rich people, if anyone has a little bit more success than their own success, they cut them off. But if someone has HUGE success over their own success, they respect them. This trickles down to the children. The Joneses effect leaves no room for more than a few "friends".

Rich people will try to be friends with the Joneses, but will shun anyone who isn't the Joneses. Haven't quite figured it out.

I whipped a 65k car in college. This other guy from a poorer background got maybe a 25k used E-class Benz (with a car note and 25k might be pushing it) but these poor kids were more impressed with the used Benz. I hated every one of them for it. Poor people don't know the cost of goods. I only had one poor friend who knew rides and agreed he would never buy a Benz less than an S-class, why fake it? I said "apparently nobody knows the difference".

10 years later after much snobbery I finally agreed with buying a fake Benz. The brand identity is just that strong and I myself would now consider it.
