For example, Stoner metal pioneer's Sleep wrote a song called "Dopesmoker" which clocks in at 1:03:52 which is 90% of the track is composed of C tuned distorted bass running riffs on down-tempo 12/8 signatures... In other words the tempo and the length of the song are equivalent to swimming through tar, and you could drive cross state and the song is still doing bass runs and drum fills

I won't say Pantera is the greatest metal band ever, and Dime is the greatest guitarist ever. Both would be highly wrong.

BUT, in the genre of Metal, they were some of the best.

I'd say Mustaine or Satriani are the greatest guitarists ever... and even then, classifying Satriani as metal is kinda pushing the limits a tad.

Although Steve Harris as greatest metal basist probably isn't a stretch.

The musicians you listed have actual talent. Abacab just wants to look cool on stage, and picked the "subgenre" of metal that requires the least amount of talent to play. Yes, because all music should be about how well you can play modes and scales in sequence and let's totally cut out rhythm in the name of guitarsturbation. Is talented because the rhythm involved gives a emotional impression, just like when I listen to 16 Horsepower and Woven Hand the minimalistic folk and world instrumentalism gives it that edge of being creative without it being prototypical bluegrass or shitty Eurocentric folk.

Thrash is because it's born with punk mentality, the whole genre lifts punk's sentimentalism towards society in general.

Doom just as the name suggests is written in the context of a nihilist, not really "angry kid" music so much as a very minimalist way of reflecting depression.

As for Sludge 99% of the material revolves around it's name sake which is music that sounds "dirty and unclean" all the material is essentially heroin drenched, black sabbath laden, crust punk.
